Forced to miss all of training camp after undergoing abdominal surgery, Detroit Lions rookie cornerback Chris Greenwood will remain on the team's physically unable to perform list for the remainder of the season, according to a report by Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

The Lions had to make a decision on Greenwood's ability to contribute, with his 21-day PUP practice window set to expire on Tuesday, but ultimately determined that the 6'1" cornerback from local Albion College was not quite ready after missing so much time.

"He’s a small-school guy," head coach Jim Schwartz said. "I think missing training camp was probably the biggest thing for him."

A fifth-round pick by the Lions in April, Greenwood rose up draft boards after being clocked at an impressive 4.3-second 40-yard dash time. But without prior NFL experience to fall back on following his ill-timed surgery, the promising defender faced tough odds after missing the entirety of his first pro training camp. Though he will not get the chance to show his impressive combination of size and speed this year, Greenwood will definitely be a player to watch next spring.
