Detroit added more depth at receiver on Tuesday night.

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE

The Detroit Lions made a minor roster move on Tuesday night, adding wide receiver Troy Burrell to the practice squad and releasing guard Pat Boyle. In doing so, the team continued to add depth at wide receiver, a position where it has struggled at times this season to complement Calvin Johnson.

Burrell is an undrafted free agent out of Wayne State who was signed after the draft by the Lions but released in June to make room for quarterback R.J. Archer. At Wayne State, Burrell set a school record for career receptions with 187 and finished second all-time in both receiving yards (3,132) and receiving touchdowns (27). At 5-9, 183, Burrell is a classic slot receiver.

Boyle was also an undrafted free agent who signed with the Lions after this year's draft. The guard out of Temple has been cut before by Detroit, so it's likely that the team will keep tabs on him.

Burrell becomes the second wide receiver on Detroit's practice squad along with Kris Durham.
