The Detroit Lions were expected to make the jump from good team to elite team this season, but instead, they're slated to pick within the top five when the 2013 NFL Draft comes around.
With their blowout 38-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 15, the Lions fell to 4-10, well out of playoff contention and with no real explanation for their obvious regression this season. Only two teams in the NFL have worse records when it comes to wins and losses.
Those teams are the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars, who both sit at 2-12 and are competing for the No. 1 pick in the draft. Spots three through four are occupied by the Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles and the aforementioned Lions.
All three of them are at 4-10, but the Lions have the stronger strength of schedule and pick at No. 5. There are six 5-9 teams immediately after them, so there is room to swing fully out of the top 10, but for now, Detroit would be picking among the five worst teams in the NFL if the draft started after Week 15.
