The Michigan Wolverines returned to the USA Today Coaches Poll this weekend as the 23rd-ranked team in the nation after beating the Northwestern Wildcats in overtime on Saturday. Brady Hoke's squad is now 5-1 in Big Ten play after a shaky beginning to the season.
On Saturday, the Wolverines came from behind in the last minute of regulation to tie the game before ultimately winning 38-31 in the first overtime period. Other than a 23-9 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the road two weeks ago, Michigan has played well against conference foes this year.
With the defeat of top-ranked Alabama over the weekend, the top five in the Coaches Poll has a new look this week, as well. The Oregon Ducks, Kansas St. Wildcats, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Georgia Bulldogs and Crimson Tide fill out the top five now.
Next week, Michigan hosts the Iowa Hawkeyes before the regular season finale in Columbus, Ohio, against the Ohio St. Buckeyes.
