The Michigan State Spartans began their season with two consecutive losses, but Tom Izzo's men's basketball team has rebounded quite well. The Spartans will look to improve to 10-2 on the season Monday night as they host the UMKC Kangaroos at 8:30 p.m. in a game that will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
The Spartans schedule hasn't been all that difficult following the team's season-opening losses to the Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels -- the No. 23 Gonzaga Bulldogs have been their only other ranked opponent -- but Michigan State has taken care of business regardless.
Senior forward Draymond Green is nearly averaging a double-double for the Spartans with 15.9 points and 9.7 rebounds to lead Michigan State in both categories while Keith Appling and Brandon Wood are also averaging double-figures in points with just over ten per game apiece.
The Kangaroos, hailing from Missouri-Kansas City, are led by senior guard Reggie Chamberlain and his 19 points per contest. Kirk Korver, the younger brother of NBA sharpshooter Kyle, averages 6.6 points and a team-high 4.8 rebounds for the Kangaroos.
The Spartans will play Lehigh on Thursday before their first Big Ten opponent, the Indiana Hoosiers, visit next Wednesday.
