Michigan State Basketball Wins Women's Big Ten Title

The Michigan State men's basketball team has had a less than stellar season, but the women's program has picked up the slack by winning its first ever outright Big Ten championship. The Spartans clinched the title on Thursday despite losing by a point to Ohio State. That was only MSU's fourth loss of the entire season, and today they wrapped up the regular season with a win at Minnesota, their 25th victory of 2010-11.

The Big Ten women's basketball tournament begins next week in Indianapolis (bracket here). Michigan State, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa and Ohio State will receive first-round byes. The Wolverines hold the tiebreaker, so they received the third seed. Iowa and Wisconsin are fourth and fifth, and the winner of that game will face Michigan State in the semifinals if the Spartans get past either Northwestern or Minnesota.
