ESPN announced on Thursday that it will televise the 2011 Carrier Classic, a basketball game between Michigan State and North Carolina set to be played on an aircraft carrier on Nov. 11, 2011 (Veterans Day). The game will tip off at 7 p.m. (Eastern Time) and will be the first college basketball game televised by ESPN for the 2011-12 season.
Most of the details for the 2011 Carrier Classic have already been worked out, but one that has yet to be decided is which aircraft carrier will host the game. The two candidates to play host as the venue are the USS Ronald Reagan and the USS Carl Vinson. (Via The Dagger)
If the USS Carl Vinson sounds familiar, that's because it is the aircraft carrier that buried Osama bin Laden's body at sea at the beginning of the month. Come Veterans Day later this year it could have a basketball court and bleachers set up on its deck for the game between Michigan State and North Carolina.
A final determination about the aircraft carrier the game will be played on will be made as we get closer to Veterans Day.
