Former MSU Football Star Bubba Smith Dies At 66

Former Michigan State All-American defensive end Bubba Smith was found dead at his Los Angeles home on Wednesday at the age of 66. It's believed the cause of death was natural causes.

Smith won All-American honors in 1965 and 1966 for Michigan State and was a popular athlete at the school. Smith's 1966 Spartans team went 9-0-1 and won the Big Ten championship, but lost the Rose Bowl. His No. 95 jersey was retired in 2006 by MSU and he is a 1988 member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

He was drafted first overall in the 1967 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts and played nine seasons. As a professional he helped Baltimore win Super Bowl V and was twice elected to the Pro Bowl.

After retiring, Smith moved onto a small-time acting career, where he was known for his roles in the Police Academy series. His character is featured in all but one of the series' seven films.
