Maxwell, a redshirt junior, is set to take over as Michigan State's starting quarterback following the departure of Kirk Cousins. Last season, Maxwell completed 18-of-26 passes for 171 yards and one touchdown.
If Maxwell is unable to play in the spring game, redshirt freshman Connor Cook will likely play quarterback for both sides. Via Joe Rexrode of The Lansing State Journal:
Dantonio said Connor Cool likely will play both sides in spring game of Maxwell can't go.
