There's a lot of hype surrounding the Michigan Wolverines and their football team this upcoming season. Several players are on the various watch lists around the NCAA, and many believe they're able to do some damage this year. The 2012 USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll was released on Thursday, and you can count them among those that believe in the Wolverines.
Michigan comes in at No. 8 in the poll. LSU edged out Alabama for first place in the poll with 18 first-place votes. Alabama actually had 20 first-place votes but probably found itself in third on multiple ballots, as Southern California took 19 first-place votes. So Southern California and Alabama swapping second and third probably hurt their case a lot. Oklahoma and Oregon round out the top five, while Florida State and Georgia round out the teams ahead of Michigan.
The Michigan St. Spartans came in at No. 13. That is the highest ranking that the Spartans have ever had in a USA Today preseason poll, according to the team's official Twitter account.
