The head coach from Iron Mountain, Mich. lived up to the name of his hometown, flying in as Iron Man during Michigan State's Midnight Madness on Friday.
Izzo's entrance was preceded by a video in which Sparty was kidnapped by other villains from the universe who had the faces of Big 10 coaches Bo Ryan, Thad Matta and John Beilein. After flying in on a zip line, Iron Man -- who later revealed himself to be Izzo -- emerged with Sparty.
The Iron Man outfit that Izzo wore while addressing the crowd on Friday was the same one Robert Downey Jr. wore in the Iron Man movies, according to Chris Solari of the Lansing State Journal.
Izzo addressed the crowd at center court before a green versus white scrimmage showcased the 2012 Spartans' roster. Michigan State will be led this year by junior point guard Keith Appling and senior center Derrick Nix.
