Michigan State vs. Miami: Spartans head to Coral Gables for ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Tom Izzo's team will get another early season test when it faces the Canes on the road.

The Michigan State Spartans have been tested already this season, opening the year with a loss to the Connecticut Huskies and a win over the Kansas Jayhawks, and on Wednesday night they'll get a chance to measure themselves against one of the top teams in the ACC when they take on the Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables.

The Canes have been unimpressive to begin their season, but they were picked fourth in the ACC preseason and are considered a strong NCAA Tournament contender in the conference. Miami features Reggie Johnson and Kenny Kadji, one of the better big man tandems in the ACC, and will test a Spartans team whose production has come mostly from the backcourt this season.

Miami is deep in the backcourt, as well, with guards Shane Larkin and Durand Scott leading the team in scoring, but it's a team that is at its best when its big men are dominant. The Canes play at a relatively slow pace, which will be familiar for a Spartans team that has scored 70 points or more just twice this season.

Wednesday night's game tips at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
