Jud Heathcote to miss Michigan State basketball reunion following fall on ice

Jud Heathcote coached Michigan State from 1976 to 1995.

Former Michigan State head coach Jud Heathcote was supposed to be an honorary coach alongside Mark Dantonio for Friday's reunion game but will miss the festivities after falling on ice, according to Joe Rexrode of the Detroit Free Press.

Heathcote called to cancel his appearance after he slipped on ice and fell to the pavement on his way to church on Sunday in Spokane, Wash.

Heathcote told Rexrode that he has "a lot of bruises" and pain around his replaced hip.

Michigan State has yet to announce a replacement for Heathcote.

The reunion game that Heathcote was expected to coach will be on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Jenison Fieldhouse and will be followed by Michigan State taking on Tuskegee at 9 p.m. on Saturday. The Michigan State women's basketball team will then play Ft. Wayne on Sunday at Jenison. The games at Jenison this weekend will be the first to be played there since 1989.
