Michigan State's William Gholston aiming to be 'unstoppable'

Junior defensive end William Gholston hopes to bounce back from a string of mediocre performances this weekend.

One of the most physically imposing players in the Big Ten, Michigan State defensive end William Gholston is eager to put his frustrating start to the 2012 season behind him this weekend against Indiana. The 6'7, 278-pound lineman is still tied for the team lead with one sack after five games, but told Diamond Leung of MLive.com on Wednesday that he wants to have a monster impact this Saturday.

"Me personally, what I want to do with this game is challenge myself personally to try to be unstoppable," Gholston said. "I'm going to try to be unstoppable. I know my teammates are going to do the same thing. When we go to the defensive meeting room and talk as a unit, we’re going to try to dominate."

The junior end was benched in favor of freshman Shilique Calhoun against Eastern Michigan, and only recorded two solo tackles in last Saturday's one-point loss to the Buckeyes. Though he remains a crucial piece of coordinator Pat Narduzzi's top-ranked defense, Gholston's dedication to improve still comes at a time when his status in the starting lineup has been called into question.

With two losses already on their resume, the Spartans may need the best William Gholston possible going forward in order to make a repeat trip to the Big Ten Championship in December. The Hoosiers were manhandled by Northwestern's defense for the first 30 minutes last weekend however, which could offer Gholston and company a chance to finally get to the quarterback this weekend.
