The Notre Dame (13-4-0/9-1-0-0) hockey team beat Michigan State (4-10-2/3-8-1-0) on Saturday, 5-1, completing a two-game weekend sweep and moving into first place in the CCHA with the win.
Notre Dame scored five unanswered goals and held a 5-0 lead until late in the third period, when Matt Berry scored a goal for Michigan State on an assist by Jake Chelios and Matt DeBlouw.
Notre Dame got on the board in the first period with a goal by Anders Lee. They scored two in the second, one by Mike Voran and one by Steven Fogarty. David Gerths and Thomas DiPauli scored in the third period.
"It's tough," Michigan State coach Tom Anastos said on the team's website. "We played what I thought was a really good period, and then we make a mistake and it ends up in the back of our net. Same thing in the second period — mistakes, and we paid for them, dearly. We have to continue to work at eliminating those mistakes."
