Today is the first day of college basketball's early signing period, and it is a big day for the Spartans and Wolverines. According to ESPN's recruiting rankings both schools will welcome top 15 classes today as players are now eligible to sign their national letter of intent.
For Michigan, Mitch McGary heads a class that ESPN rates as the fifth best in the country:
The rankings continue to fluctuate as Michigan jumps back in at No. 5 after coach John Beilein landed PF Mitch McGary (Chesterton, Ind./Brewster Academy), No. 2 overall. He will have an immediate impact in the Big Ten, just as his commitment had an immediate impact on the class rankings.
Michigan is also adding Glenn Robinson III, the son of former National Player of the Year Glenn Robinson of Purdue.
Michigan State's class is currently rated 15th by ESPN, but it could get a big boost today if five-star shooting guard Gary Harris of Hamilton Southeastern High in Indiana commits. Harris is rumored to be down to the Spartans and Purdue, as his mother played basketball for the Boilermakers in the 1980's.
