One of the things Brady Hoke has stressed during interviews in his first month and a half as Michigan's head coach is beating rivals like Ohio State and Michigan State. He has kept true to his word in highlighting those two rivalries, installing countdown clocks for each game in Michigan's weight room. (Interestingly, the OSU countdown clock says "Beat Ohio," keeping with the theme of Hoke not ever saying "Ohio State.")
↵In addition to the countdown clocks, Hoke has also had a quote from Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio blown up and put on one of the walls in the weight room:
↵↵↵As far as I know, this quote was never published by the media, so Hoke must have heard it through the grapevine from someone at the Ohio High School Coaches Clinic, which is where Dantonio allegedly made this statement. There's no telling if that is exactly what Dantonio said or if he said it at all, but I doubt Michigan players care, which is why the quote is now on the wall of their weight room. Hoke obviously wants to motivate his players to beat Michigan State, which holds a three-game winning streak in this rivalry. Usually bulletin board material is saved for the week of the game, but Hoke is getting a big head start.
