The television ratings for the Detroit Pistons' season opener are nearly double what they were in 2011.

The Detroit Pistons drew a 4.6 rating for their season-opening game against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. The game, broadcasted on Fox Sports Detroit, nearly doubled the ratings of last season's opening game, which drew a 2.88 rating.

Due to the NBA lockout in 2011, the Pistons opened last season on Dec. 26 against the Indiana Pacers. The day after Christmas date and the lockout itself may have impacted last season's numbers.

The 4.6 rating on Wednesday was also the highest recorded season-opening rating since the start of the 2009-10 season. That year, the Pistons were coming off a playoff appearance in 2008-09; the Pistons have not been back to the playoffs since that season.

Last year, Detroit finished 25-41, fourth place in the Central Division. In the offseason they selected Andre Drummond with the ninth pick of the 2012 NBA Draft and traded Ben Gordon to the Charlotte Bobcats for Corey Maggette.
