Over two months since the NHL lockout first began, the NHL and NHL Player's Association have not been the best of friends. On Friday, Red Wings defenseman Ian White made that perfectly clear in a conversation with Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press when he had some particularly sharp comments directed at NHL commissioner Gary Bettman:
"I gotta be honest: I personally think he's an idiot. Since he's come in, I think he's done nothing but damage the game."
The comments came just one day after Chris Johnston of the Canadian Press reported that Bettman suggested the two sides take a two-week moratorium from negotiations. The lockout, which reached day No. 63 on Saturday, has already forced the cancellation of 327 games, including the Winter Classic that was to be held at Michigan Stadium.
White, 28, played multiple seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs before he was traded to the Calgary Flames. He was then traded to the Carolina Hurricanes before he was eventually traded to the San Jose Sharks. White finally had the opportunity to pick a team for himself in 2011 and signed a two-year deal with the Red Wings in free agency.
