From Pro Football Talk:

Per a league source, the Lions have agreed to terms with running back Jahvid Best.

It's a five-year, $9.8 million deal.

How much of that money is guaranteed is unclear, but Pigskinology projected he would get around $6.8 million guaranteed. Considering Pigskinology has been pretty accurate so far, that is probably in the ballpark.

UPDATE: National Football Post's Aaron Wilson reported this about Best's contract:

Jahvid Best's five-year deal has a maximum value of $12.7 million and $7.1 million in total guaranteed money, per a league source.

The $3 million or so difference between PFT's numbers and Wilson's are likely because of incentives. The maximum value doesn't mean he will earn that much; it just means that's what he could earn.

Jahvid Best, one of the Lions' two first-round picks from the 2010 NFL Draft, is ready to get on the field when practice begins for training camp tomorrow, as he and Detroit have agreed to a five-year deal.

Originally, it looked like there was a chance that Best could miss some practice time, but there wasn't concern that this would be a long-term issue. Well, as it turns out, it wasn't an issue at all, as Best ended up being signed with more than enough time before tomorrow's morning conditioning test and afternoon practice.

With Best agreeing to a deal, the Lions can now set their sights on getting Ndamukong Suh locked up. It may be a case of just waiting until Sam Bradford, the first overall pick, signs with the Rams, but at the very least all of the Lions' efforts can now be focused on Suh.

The Lions have signed their fourth draft pick, inking seventh-round selection Tim Toone to a three-year deal.

Toone is actually out in California right now to celebrate "Irrelevant Week" since he was the final pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.

"I am super stoked right now," Toone said. "It's better than being the first pick."

Toone also will get a chance to ride in the Goodyear Blimp, visit "Toon Town" at Disneyland, make an appearance at a Los Angeles Angels game and appear as an in-studio guest on the NFL Network.

Toone's signing means the Lions' only draft picks not under contract are their two first-round selections, Ndamukong Suh and Jahvid Best.

Half of the Lions' 2010 draft picks have now been signed.

The Lions announced earlier today that third-round pick Amari Spievey, a cornerback out of Iowa, has been inked to a three-year deal. The team also announced the Willie Young signing. He, like fourth-round pick Jason Fox, who was signed last Friday, got a three-year deal.

With Spievey now in the fold, all that's left for the Lions to sign are two first-round picks and wide receiver Tim Toone, also known as Mr. Irrelevant. I would expect Toone to be signed fairly soon, but it probably will be a little longer of a wait for Ndamukong Suh and Jahvid Best to get a deal done.

The Lions have the next month off as they wait for training camp to begin, but during that time the front office will be busy trying to get all of the team's draft picks signed. The team has put off signing the draft picks until now because the rookies could participate in OTAs and minicamps but didn't count against the roster limit. That is no longer the case going forward, as all rookies must be under contract to participate in training camp.

So far, the Lions have signed two of their six draft picks. Offensive tackle Jason Fox, a fourth-round selection out of Miami (FL), was signed on Friday. Defensive end Willie Young, a seventh-rounder out of North Carolina State, was inked to a deal yesterday. Both players' deals are three years long.

To make room on the roster for Fox, the Lions waived wide receiver Marko Mitchell, who has already been claimed by the Vikings. Along with signing Young, the Lions waived kicker Justin Medlock and offensive guard Kurt Quarterman, perhaps indicating that another draft pick may be inked to a deal sometime soon.

The remaining unsigned draft picks, by the way, are Ndamukong Suh (follow news about his contract negotiations here), Jahvid Best, Amari Spievey and Tim Toone.
