Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) – Denard Robinson hit Junior Hemingway on a 42-yard pass with 21 seconds left and took it in himself for the game-winning four-yard score on the next play, as 19th-ranked Michigan got by Indiana, 42-35, in a shootout at Memorial Stadium in the Big Ten opener for both programs.

Robinson racked up 494 yards of offense and accounted for five touchdowns. He re-injured the left knee that kept him out of the final three quarters in last weekend’s 65-21 home blowout of Bowling Green, but only missed a handful of plays in the third quarter.

The sophomore then directed the Wolverines 73 yards on five plays for the go- ahead score after Indiana tied it up with 1:15 left to play.

The big-play threat threw a 70-yard TD pass to Hemingway and ran for a 72-yard score in addition to a 32-yard scoring strike to Roy Roundtree to significantly pad his Heisman Trophy credentials.

Robinson ended 10-of-16 passing for 277 yards and ran for 217 yards and two scores for the Wolverines (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten), who had 574 total yards of offense.

Indiana senior Ben Chappell set school records for passing yards (480), completions (45) and attempts (64) with three touchdowns and an interception for Indiana (3-1, 0-1), which hasn’t beat Michigan since 1987 and was searching for its first 4-0 start in 20 years.

If you figured Michigan and Indiana would engage in a shootout today in Bloomington, you’re looking pretty smart right now. Both defenses have allowed the opposing offenses to make highlight reel plays in the first half, resulting in a 21-21 tie thus far.

Michigan’s Denard Robinson has picked up right where he left off after exiting last week’s game versus Bowling Green. He’s compiled 154 yards rushing on just eight carries, including a 72-yard touchdown run. Robinson has also completed 7-of-9 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Roy Roundtree and Kevin Koger had the scoring receptions for the Wolverines.

Unfortunately, Robinson also made a key mistake that prevented Michigan from opening up a bigger lead over the Hoosiers. After hooking up with Roundtree on a 74-yard reception that put the Wolverines inside the Indiana five-yard line, Robinson fumbled at the goal line one play later.

The Hoosiers pounced on the opportunity, driving 99 yards to tie the game at 14-14. The drive was capped off by a 22-yard touchdown run by Darius Willis.

Michigan took a 21-14 lead with four minutes remaining in the half, but Ben Chappell drove Indiana 72 yards in 10 plays. With no time remaining, Demarlo Belcher made a diving catch in the right corner for the game-tying touchdown.

Courtesy of ESPN.com’s Adam Rittenberg, Indiana is expecting a crowd of 52,929 at Memorial Stadium Saturday for its Big Ten home opener against Michigan.

This would be the fourth largest crowd in school history, and the largest turnout to attend a game not against either Purdue or Ohio State. The sellout will be Indiana’s first since 2007. And the last time Memorial Stadium sold out for a game against a team other than the Boilermakers or Buckeyes was 1992, when a No. 3 Michigan team came to Bloomington.

But will all those fans actually show up? The weather forecast in Bloomington doesn't look very good, with rain and temperatures in the mid-to-high-50s by gametime.

GAME NOTES: The 19th-ranked Michigan Wolverines will attempt to remain undefeated as they take on the also unbeaten Indiana Hoosiers in Bloomington this weekend.

Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez endured more disappointment than satisfaction during his first two seasons with the program, so he entered this campaign on the "hot seat" in the eyes of many fans and analysts. Clearly, Rodriguez has silenced his critics, at least for now, as his squad has cruised to four straight victories, Last weekend, the Wolverines crushed Bowling Green as expected by a 65-21 final.

Indiana has recorded three double-digit victories to open the campaign, enabling Bill Lynch's squad to generate some confidence. It should be pointed out, however, that the quality of the opposition to date has been rather low. After all, the Hoosiers knocked off Towson, an FCS squad, and Western Kentucky, the team with the longest current losing skid in the FBS, before defeating Akron last weekend by a 35-20 final.

The Wolverines squeaked by the Hoosiers last season by a 36-33 final to increase their lead in the all-time series to 51-9.

Few players in college football have been as impressive through the first four games of the season as Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson. The man they call "Shoelace" has rushed for 688 yards and six touchdowns while passing for 731 yards with four scores and one interception. For that reason, fans of the team held their breath when Robinson went down injured against Bowling Green.

"According to the trainers and Denard, who is not as qualified as the trainers, he'll be fine," said Rodriguez of Robinson. "He just tweaked his knee a little bit, and actually it took us a while to diagnose it because he fell on the ball and lost his breath."

The Wolverines finished that tilt with a staggering total of 721 total yards, the second-best mark in program history. Robinson ran for 129 yards and two scores before exiting, and backup Tate Forcier played well in relief. Roy Roundtree made nine grabs for 118 yards.

Michigan is averaging 41.2 ppg and 562.8 total ypg, impressive numbers to say the least. The Wolverines are racking up 331.2 ypg on the ground, and they have already scored 17 rushing touchdowns. Michael Shaw has rushed for 245 yards and five touchdowns, while Vincent Smith has three scores to his credit. As for the receivers, Roundtree leads the way with 20 catches.

Opponents are scoring 23.0 ppg against Michigan, which is yielding 400.0 total ypg. While the offense has been spectacular, the defense has been average at best. Michigan has shown the most obvious weakness against the pass, surrendering 13.2 yards per completion. Still, seven of the 12 touchdowns scored by opposing offenses have been of the rushing variety.

Last weekend, the Wolverines held the Falcons to 283 total yards, including just 32 rushing yards on 27 attempts. Clearly, a pair of interceptions helped the cause.

"It was better, but it was not at the level we need to be at going into the Big Ten," said Rodriguez after the Bowling Green tilt. "We've got to tackle better. I thought our guys responded well, some third downs we had some big stops, but we still need to put more pressure on the quarterback."

Indiana is scoring 41.3 ppg this season, and the squad is racking up 417.3 total ypg. The majority of the damage done by the Hoosiers has come through the air, as quarterback Ben Chappell has been tremendous. Not only has the unheralded signal caller completed 72.4 percent of his passes, but he has thrown for 890 yards with nine touchdowns and zero interceptions. Demario Belcher leads the receivers with 21 grabs for 284 yards and two touchdowns, while Ted Bolser has four receiving touchdowns to his credit. As for Darius Willis, he paces a modest ground attack with 219 yards and two scores.

Against Akron last week, Chappell was an efficient 23-of-33 for 342 yards with four touchdowns and zero interceptions. Terrance Turner made six grabs for 121 yards and a score in that game, while Bolser reached the end zone twice. As for Willis, he rushed for 87 yards in the win.

"I thought Matt Canada and the offensive staff did a nice job of putting together a gameplan," said coach Lynch. "They had some things down there in the red zone that were effective. It was good to score touchdowns. That was something that we talked about."

Defensively, Indiana is yielding 19.3 ppg and 338.3 total ypg. The Hoosiers are permitting 177.0 rushing ypg at a clip of 5.2 yards per carry, so that is an area of obvious weakness. The pass defense has been stronger, but there has still been five scores permitted through the air.

The Hoosiers didn't allow a rushing score against Akron despite yielding 160 yards on the ground. The pass defense put forth a mediocre effort in that tilt, but the defense certainly played well enough to win.

"I thought we played with good effort and good energy," said Lynch of his defense.

Michigan will defeat Indiana this weekend, especially since Robinson seems to be in good health. "Shoelace" will strengthen his Heisman bid with another big day.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Michigan 41, Indiana 20

There wasn't exactly much concern in Ann Arbor about Denard Robinson's status for Saturday's game against Indiana, but just in case anybody was worried he might not play, fear not:

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez says quarterback Denard Robinson is "good to go" against Indiana.

Rodriguez says Robinson did everything in practice Tuesday and won't have restrictions this week.

The prognosis is not nearly as promising for running backs Michael Shaw and Fitzgerald Toussaint. Both are doubtful for the game, which is a blow to Michigan's depth at running back. Shaw has established himself as the top back, and Toussaint got his first action as a Wolverine last week, rushing for 66 yards on two carries.

On defense, Carvin Johnson may play for the first time since the season opener against UConn. Brandon Herron, who has been out since the Notre Dame game, is questionable. Safety Michael Williams, who has been dealing with concussion issues, may be done playing football for good, so Michigan shouldn't expect him to be able to play anytime soon.

Denard Robinson gave Michigan fans a serious scare when he left the Bowling Green game on Saturday with a knee injury, but there was a collective sigh of relief when it was reported that the injury wasn't serious. By all accounts, Robinson could have returned to the game if he was needed, but as the play of Tate Forcier and Devin Gardner showed, Robinson's services were not needed. Michigan rolled Bowling Green, winning by a score of 65-21, and both of the backups QBs looked good in relief of Robinson.

Although Forcier and Gardner played well against BGSU, the Big Ten is a different animal, which is why it's key that Michigan has all of its weapons ready to go against Indiana. Luckily for Michigan, it is expected that Robinson, the most dangerous weapon of all, will play on Saturday. He only has a bruised left knee, and although he will be limited today in practice, he should be good to go fully starting tomorrow.

In other injury news, running back Michael Shaw sprained his knee against BGSU and is day-to-day. Like Robinson, he is also expected to be able to practice fully on Tuesday, making it seem likely that he will be able to play against Indiana.

Tate Forcier, who was limping a bit on Saturday, apparently took a helmet to his quad. Forcier himself said that he was fine following the game, and it appears he will be ready to go on Saturday as Michigan's backup quarterback.

Fitzgerald Toussaint, who ran for 66 yards and a touchdown on only two carries in his Michigan debut on Saturday, hurt his shoulder. The severity of the injury isn't known currently, though, as further evaluation is needed.

Rich Rodriguez is optimistic that Carvin Johnson, who has been out since the UConn game, will play against Indiana. The same goes for Brandon Herron, who was injured against Notre Dame.
