The new BCS standings were just released and the Michigan State Spartans are ranked 12th, one spot down from where they were last week. In the AP Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll, MSU dropped from 10th to 11th, while the Harris Poll kept them at No. 10. This week in the BCS, Alabama, a team with two losses, passed them to move up to No. 11 in the standings.

Here is a full look at the BCS standings as we head into Week 12 of the season:

Oregon

Auburn

TCU

Boise State

LSU

Stanford

Wisconsin

Nebraska

Ohio State

Oklahoma State

Alabama

Miami (FL)

Florida State

The BCS standings would decide which Big Ten team goes to the Rose Bowl if a three-way tie happens between MSU, Wisconsin and OSU, and there is really no way the Spartans will move up and pass the Badgers and Buckeyes. Even so, the BCS still matters because if Ohio State and MSU end up tied for first and Wisconsin suffers a loss, the Spartans could be in position for an at-large BCS bid. Dropping to 12th behind Alabama certainly doesn't seem encouraging, but there are still two weeks and a lot of teams ahead of MSU could lose, so an at-large bid is still in the picture in my mind.

Although the Michigan State Spartans dropped a spot down to No. 11 in the USA Today Poll and AP Poll, they stayed ranked at No. 10 in the new Harris Interactive College Football Poll. The Harris Poll, along with the USA Today Poll, make up the human voting portion of the BCS standings, so that's good news for MSU. The computers will play a big part in where the Spartans end up being ranked since the human polls have them 11th and 10th, but at least they are still in the top ten in one of those human polls.

Although Michigan State was ranked 11th in last week's BCS standings, it was 10th in the AP and USA Today Polls. This week, however, the Spartans have dropped to 11th in both of those human polls, slipping a spot after being on a bye. The AP Poll jumped Alabama to 10th over MSU despite the fact that the Crimson Tide have two losses, to South Carolina and LSU. In the USA Today Poll, Oklahoma State moved up a spot over the Spartans, which isn't too surprising considering the Cowboys are 9-1. If anything, Oklahoma State being ranked above MSU makes a heck of a lot more sense than Alabama being above the Spartans.

The Michigan State Spartans were on a bye this past week, getting a break before they have to get ready for their final two regular season games, against Purdue and Penn State. Since the Spartans were on a bye, not much movement in the new polls was expected to begin, but after how the action played out with the top teams in college football, it doesn't look like they will have any chance whatsoever of moving up in the new rankings

At the top of last week's BCS standings was Oregon, which survived a close game against Cal, winning by a score of 15-13. Next in the rankings was Auburn, which turned a close game into a comfortable victory, beating Georgia, 49-31. TCU, the No. 3 team in last week's BCS standings, also was involved in a close game, beating San Diego State by only five points. Rounding out the top five, Boise State and LSU both won in blowout fashion, meaning none of the top five teams suffered defeats.

The same is true for the latter part of the top ten of last week's BCS standings. Stanford, the No. 5 team last week, beat Arizona State by four points. Wisconsin absolutely destroyed Indiana, winning by a ridiculous score of 83-20. Nebraska cruised to a 17-point win over Kansas. Ohio State scored 35 unanswered points en route to a 38-14 win over Penn State. Finally, Oklahoma State handed Texas another loss, winning, 33-16.

Michigan State was ranked 11th in last week's BCS standings, and I'd be pretty surprised if the Spartans aren't there again in the new rankings that come out on Sunday night. None of the teams ranked ahead of MSU lost this past week and two of the teams ranked right behind the Spartans were defeated. Alabama, the team one spot behind MSU, did beat Mississippi State, but the No. 13 Iowa Hawkeyes lost to Northwestern and the No. 14 Utah Utes were embarrassed by Notre Dame. I don't see any team being able to jump the Spartans just as I don't see the Spartans being able to jump anybody after being on a bye, so it looks like they will spend another week being ranked No. 11 in the nation in the BCS standings.
