<p>Dallas, TX (<a href="http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/events/61725/recap?article_id=132367">Sports Network</a>) - <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/54265/patrick-eaves">Patrick Eaves</a> tallied his first career hat trick along with an assist as Detroit scored six unanswered goals to defeat Dallas, 7-3, at American Airlines Center.</p>
<p><a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55723/nicklas-lidstrom">Nicklas Lidstrom</a> and <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55735/jiri-hudler">Jiri Hudler</a> each had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who have taken three in a row on the road after Christmas to keep them atop the Western Conference with 52 points.</p>
<p><a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55732/brad-stuart">Brad Stuart</a> and <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55737/kris-draper">Kris Draper</a> each added goals in the win, while <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55738/jimmy-howard">Jimmy Howard</a> made 28 saves between the pipes for Detroit, which snapped a six-game losing streak in north Texas.</p>
<p><a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55175/jamie-benn">Jamie Benn</a> had a goal and an assist for the Stars, who have lost three of their last four games. <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55192/mark-fistric">Mark Fistric</a> and <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55200/brad-richards">Brad Richards</a> were the other players to register a goal for Dallas, which has lost three in a row on home ice.</p>
<p><a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/54786/kari-lehtonen">Kari Lehtonen</a> let in six goals on 25 shots in the loss.</p>
<p>Detroit took the lead, 4-3, only 5 1/2 minutes into the final period when a strong Detroit possession was finished by Stuart's slapper from the point off a pass from Hudler.</p>
<p>Detroit gained a two-goal cushion thanks to Darren Helm's fore-checking that worked away a loose puck to Eaves. He then sent it to Draper, who ripped a one-timer past Lehtonen with 6:37 left in regulation.</p>
<p>Only 44 seconds later, Eaves tapped home Johan Franzen's crossing pass for a 6-3 advantage and Eaves added an empty netter to make up the final score with 2:14 left that capped his trifecta.</p>
<p>"We came out in the third and played a little bit sloppy," said Stars forward <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55184/brenden-morrow">Brenden Morrow</a>. "We over-pursued and lost coverage. They capitalized on our mistakes."</p>
<p>The Red Wings opened the game's scoring during Steve Ott's tripping penalty in the first minute and a half of play. Hudler recorded the power-play goal with a snap shot from the right circle off a pass from <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/54655/todd-bertuzzi">Todd Bertuzzi</a>.</p>
<p>Dallas came out quickly in the second period by scoring three goals in 74 seconds to take a usually-solid 3-1 advantage.</p>
<p>Richards started the rally at the 5:39 mark with a wrist shot. Fistric then gave Dallas the lead, 2-1, with a slapper at 6:24, and Benn finished out the run by tucking the puck off the right leg of Howard at 6:53.</p>
<p>Detroit fought back, though, scoring the final two goals of the second period. Lidstrom received a pass from <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55747/valtteri-filppula">Valtteri Filppula</a> and slapped it home just shy of nine minutes played. Eaves knotted them game at three apiece heading into the final period with the Wings' second power-play goal of game at the 17:38 mark.</p>
<p>Eaves, a Boston College product, is now one score off his 2009-10 total of 12...The Red Wings' output was their most in any game at Dallas since the Stars relocated from Minnesota in 1993, and the seven goals were the most for the Wings on the road against the Stars franchise since a 7-1 win at Minnesota on March 7, 1993...Detroit improved to 11-5-1 on the road this season...Before the game the Stars inked defenseman <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="../../../nhl/players/55182/trevor-daley">Trevor Daley</a> to a six-year contract extension worth $19.8 million...Franzen and Bertuzzi each had two assists...Detroit was outshot 31-26, but was 2-for-2 on the power play, while Dallas was 0-for-4.</p>

They have a two-point edge over the Pacific Division-leading Stars, but have lost their last four games against Dallas, including a pair of meetings this season.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Dallas defeated Detroit for the sixth straight time at home on Oct. 14, a game that served as current Red Wing forward Mike Modano's return to town. The longtime face of the Stars franchise joined the Red Wings as a free agent this offseason, but won't play tonight due to right wrist surgery.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Detroit, which also dropped a 4-3 overtime decision at home to the Stars on Dec. 19, hasn't won in Dallas since Jan. 5, 2008 and will close out a four- game road trip tonight.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">The Red Wings have won the last two games of the swing, with <span>Niklas Kronwall</span> notching the game-winner on Monday with 1:18 left in overtime on the power play. That made a victor out of <span>Chris Osgood</span>, who matched a career high with 46 saves to become the 10th goaltender in league history to reach 400 career wins.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">"I'm happy to get that one done with," said Osgood, who had lost his last two starts. "I've worked hard to stay in the league, changing my style and staying in shape. That's what I'm most proud of."</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;"><span>Nicklas Lidstrom</span> notched a goal and three assists, while <span>Jiri Hudler</span> and <span>Johan Franzen</span> also scored. Detroit improved to 10-5-1 on the road despite playing without both <span>Dan Cleary</span> (broken left ankle) and <span>Pavel Datsyuk</span>(broken right hand/wrist). The high-scoring skaters are out indefinitely.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Though Osgood is coming off his milestone victory, <span>Jimmy Howard</span> is likely to face the Stars tonight for the first time this season and is 1-3-1 with a 2.19 goals-against average lifetime when facing the club.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Dallas halted a two-game slide last night with a 4-2 victory in Nashville, getting rare goals from <span>Mark Fistric</span> and Krystofer Barch in the process. Both skaters scored during a three-goal third period, with Fistric scoring for the first time in 82 games and Barch ending a 95-game goal drought.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">"Any time you get two unlikely guys to score goals for you in Fistric and Barch, you should win," Stars head coach Marc Crawford said. "It was very fitting that we did. It took a little something from everybody."</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;"><span>Loui Eriksson</span> also scored in the third frame and <span>Steve Ott</span> added a first- period tally to back 44 saves from<span>Andrew Raycroft</span>.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;"><span>Tom Wandell</span> and <span>Nicklas Grossman</span> both missed last night's game due to illness.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Dallas now returns home for two straight and had been 10-0-3 in its previous 13 as the host before a 1-0 loss to Phoenix on Sunday.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">With the Stars playing on consecutive nights, No. 1 netminder <span>Kari Lehtonen</span> should get the call tonight and is 2-2-0 with a 3.01 GAA versus the Red Wings. That includes 25 saves in the home victory over Detroit in October.</p>
