Toward the end of national signing day earlier this week, California offensive tackle Fou Fonoti signed with the Michigan State Spartans. Fonoti put off his decision until signing day and ultimately chose the Spartans over Rutgers and UCLA. He became the 22nd member of MSU's 2011 recruiting class by signing with the Spartans.

Fonoti was a junior college player, meaning he will come to MSU with more experience than most recruits. He was at Cerritos College last season, where he played well enough to be ranked as Rivals.com's 24th-best junior college player for the class of 2011. It is expected he will be able to compete for a starting job this fall partly because he has already played college football, even if it was at a lower level.

Fonoti is a three-star recruit on Rivals and Scout and is unranked by ESPN. His offer list includes, Arizona, Florida International, Houston, New Mexico, San Jose State, Washington State, Western Michigan and the schools that ended up in his top three.

Darian Cooper, a defensive tackle from Maryland, will sign with Iowa, according to The Washington Post's Josh Barr. Cooper's top four included Iowa, Michigan State, Michigan and Georgia Tech, and Barr reports that the Hawkeyes were chosen over the Spartans.

Cooper is a four-star recruit on Scout and ESPN and has three stars on Rivals. He has a rather impressive offer list, which speaks to his potential more than star ratings. In addition to receiving offers from the aforementioned schools in his top four, Cooper also has offers from Clemson, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, NC State, UCLA, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others. He was a very highly sought after prospect and one of the top players in the state of Maryland.

Michigan State was hoping to make Cooper its second commitment from DeMatha High School. Darien Harris, a high school teammate of Cooper, already is a member of the Spartans' 2011 recruiting class, but he will not be headed to East Lansing with Cooper. They will still see each other in the Legends Division of the new Big Ten, as Iowa and MSU will play every season, but they will be on opposing sidelines.

Michigan State football's 2011 recruiting class is nearly complete. With signing day now here, its 21 current commits have already started sending in their letters of intent. Also, over the course of the day MSU will hope to add one or two more recruits to the recruiting class, as a couple players considering the Spartans have yet to announce their decision.

Here is a rundown of Michigan State's 21 current commits (star ratings from Rivals.com):

S Trae Waynes (2*, Kenosha, WI)

Two players who have yet to announce a decision are still considering Michigan State:

Defensive tackle Darian Cooper (3*, Hyattsville, MD) is going to announce his decision on ESPNU at noon. The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that Cooper is down to Michigan State and Iowa, but Michigan and Georgia Tech are believed to be finalists as well. Whatever the case, the Spartans have a good shot at landing Cooper, who was high school teammates with MSU commit Darien Harris.

Offensive tackle Fou Fonoti (3*, Norwalk, CA) will decide between Michigan State, Rutgers and UCLA. He is a JUCO player that would bring some nice experience to the Spartans' 2011 recruiting class.

Traverse City offensive tackle Jake Fisher had Michigan State in his final list of schools, but he will sign with Oregon.
