Tampa, FL (Sports Network) – Pavel Datsyuk registered two goals, and the Detroit Red Wings posted a 6-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in a battle between first-place clubs at St. Pete Times Forum.

Danny Cleary had a goal and two assists for the Red Wings, who got 38 saves from Jimmy Howard.

The Central Division leaders were coming off consecutive victories earned over a weekend home-and-home series against Boston.

Victor Hedman and Steve Downie tallied for the Southeast Division-leading Lightning, who fell to 5-3-1 on their NHL record-tying 12-game homestand.

Dwayne Roloson allowed all six goals on 31 shots in defeat.

Cleary and Datsyuk put Detroit ahead 2-0 with goals in the first period.

While on a Red Wing power play, Cleary parked himself outside the crease and deflected Nicklas Lidstrom’s blast from the point at 6:40.

After dropping the puck to Cleary, Datsyuk drove the net and backhanded home a rebound at 14:57.

Tampa Bay erased the deficit on goals by Hedman and Downie less than three minutes apart before Detroit restored its two-goal advantage later in the second period.

Hedman intercepted a pass at the blue line and fired a shot on goal that tipped off the stick of Detroit defenseman Jonathan Ericsson at 11:51.

The Lightning pulled even on a broken play at 14:38. Steven Stamkos fanned on his one-timer, but the puck went right to Downie in the left circle and he beat Howard.

Detroit, though, responded with two goals in a 1:26 span to go up 4-2.

The Red Wings regained the lead on a power play. With Tampa Bay captain Vincent Lecavalier serving a goaltender interference penalty, Niklas Kronwall let go a wrister from atop the right circle that caromed in off the right skate of Hedman at 16:34.

Justin Abdelkader lit the lamp with two minutes remaining, taking a feed from Tomas Holmstrom and hitting an open net from the left post.

Datsyuk struck again at 11:39 of the third period, then Darren Helm beat Roloson on a breakaway to cap the scoring with 1:51 remaining.

Detroit defenseman Brad Stuart returned to the lineup after missing 15 games with a broken jaw suffered on January 7…Lidstrom and teammate Henrik Zetterberg both collected two assists…Tampa Bay now has six losses and one tie against the Red Wings since last beating them on January 7, 2003…The Lightning and the California Golden Seals in 1975-76 are the only teams in NHL history to host 12 straight games.

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings will aim for their first three-game winning streak in over a month when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning for tonight's battle between first-place clubs at St. Pete Times Forum.

The Red Wings, who are leading the Central Division with 74 points, had lost three out of four games prior to sweeping the Boston Bruins in a home-and-home series this past weekend. Detroit slammed the B's, 6-1, in Boston on Friday and then notched Sunday's 4-2 victory at Joe Louis Arena.

Todd Bertuzzi recorded two goals in each game against the Bruins, giving him 12 tallies this season. On Sunday, Bertuzzi scored in the first period to tie the score at 1-1 and also registered the game's final goal in the third stanza.

Pavel Datsyuk and Kris Draper also tallied for the Red Wings on Sunday and Jimmy Howard stopped 23 shots for the win.

"I thought we did a real good job. I thought we got better as the game went on," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock.

The Red Wings hope to get a boost at the back end tonight as Brad Stuart is expected return from a broken jaw that has sidelined him since early January. Stuart suffered the injury on Jan. 7 when Calgary's Tom Kostopoulos delivered a blind-side hit to his head. Kostopoulos was given a six-game suspension for the illegal hit.

"Obviously when we get these key players back we'll spend more time in the offensive zone and less time in the defensive zone," Babcock told his team's official website. "That makes you automatically better defensively which is important."

Detroit is 17-8-2 as the visiting team this season and is kicking off a three- game road trip tonight.

The Red Wings have dominated the Lightning in recent years, winning four straight encounters and posting a 5-0 record with one tie in the last six matchups. The Lightning's last win over Detroit came in Tampa on Jan. 7, 2003 and the Red Wings have won two straight at the Forum since then.

The Lightning will try to bounce back tonight after getting dealt a loss by the visiting Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. Tampa lost the contest in the shootout stage to fall five points behind Philly for the Eastern Conference lead.

Despite losing three of their last five games, the Lightning still have a respectable 5-2-1 mark so far on a 12-game homestand. The Bolts are 19-6-3 overall on home ice this season.

Tampa Bay is also four points ahead of Washington for the Southeast Division lead.

Kimmo Timonen registered the game-winning goal for the Flyers in the seventh round of the shootout on Tuesday. Philadelphia won the contest, 4-3, and avoided being swept by Tampa in the season series.

Teddy Purcell, Vinny Lecavalier and Dominic Moore tallied for Tampa Bay. Dwayne Roloson allowed three goals on 29 shots in the loss.

"This was a battle between two evenly-matched teams," said Tampa Bay's Randy Jones, a former Flyer.

Tampa defenseman Matt Smaby and forward Nate Thompson are both questionable for tonight's contest. Thompson has sat out three straight games with a concussion, while Smaby missed the last game with flu-like symptoms.
