It’s safe to say Josh Gasser didn’t call bank. In college basketball however, it still counts whether he did or not.

Gasser banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer to help No. 12 Wisconsin survive an upset and beat Michigan 53-52 in Ann Arbor.

Darius Morris and Stu Douglass double-teamed Wisconsin’s Jordan Taylor on the left wing with about three seconds left, but Taylor found Gasser open at the top of the key. Douglass could not get back in time to disrupt the shot enough.

Taylor finished the game with 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting as Wisconsin (21-6, 11-4 Big Ten) dealt a serious blow to Michigan’s NCAA tournament hopes. The Wolverines have only Minnesota and Michigan State left on the schedule before the Big Ten Tournament begins.

Free throws continued to haunt the Wolverines (17-12, 7-9) as Michigan missed six consecutive opportunities after making their first five attempts. Darius Morris missed a key one-and-one attempt with under a minute to play and Michigan holding on to a 52-50 lead. Morris struggled overall on the night, scoring just eight points and committing four turnovers.

Tim Hardaway Jr. led the way for Michigan with 16 points, including 4-of-7 from behind the arc. Hardaway’s last triple gave Michigan a 50-48 lead with 3:12 left after the Badgers had battled back from a halftime deficit to take the lead.

Evan Smotrycz hit a layup with five seconds left to help Michigan take a 31-30 advantage into the locker room against Wisconsin.

Tim Hardaway Jr. had 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting as the Wolverines lead the Badgers for a good chunk of the first half. Michigan struggled to keep the Badgers off the offensive glass however, as Wisconsin pulled down five offensive rebound to none for Michigan.

Jordan Morgan scored eight points, hitting all three of his shots plus a pair of free throws. In all, Michigan shot 13-of-19 from the floor in the first half.
