Detroit, MI (Sports Network) – Brandon Inge hit a solo home run with one out in the ninth inning to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers in the rubber match of a three-game series at Comerica Park.

After Texas stranded the potential go-ahead run at third in the top of the ninth, Inge hammered the first pitch he saw from Darren Oliver (1-1) over the wall in left-center for his first home run of the season.

Inge added a sacrifice fly for Detroit, which notched its second straight walk-off win on the heels of a three-game slide. Brennan Boesch knocked in the other Detroit run with a double.

Tigers starter Max Scherzer gave up two runs on six hits, walked two and struck out seven over six innings. Jose Valverde (2-0) pitched the ninth and picked up the win.

Nelson Cruz and David Murphy both hit RBI singles for the Rangers, who suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

Dave Bush, making his Texas debut, allowed three hits and walked three in a three-inning start. Bush, who made the roster as a long reliever after spending the last five years with Milwaukee, got the starting nod because of the team’s doubleheader in Baltimore over the weekend.

Before Wednesday’s game, the Rangers placed outfielder Josh Hamilton on the 15-day disabled list. Hamilton suffered a broken bone in his right upper arm during Tuesday’s game and is expected to be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said after the contest that Hamilton has a small fracture in the humerus and would likely be unable to swing a bat for at least four weeks.

The game remained scoreless until both teams pushed two runs home in the sixth inning.

Adrian Beltre led off with a single and took second on a Scherzer wild pitch before scoring on Cruz’s sharp grounder that deflected off the glove of shortstop Jhonny Peralta. Another wild pitch by Scherzer allowed Cruz to move up a base and Murphy lined a run-scoring single to center field to give Texas a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers responded in the bottom half against Texas reliever Mark Lowe, who gave up consecutive doubles to Victor Martinez and Boesch to begin the frame. Boesch then advanced to third on Alex Avila’s one-out single and scored on Inge’s sac fly.

The Rangers put their first two batters of the game on base but failed to score. Detroit also stranded two in the home first.

The Tigers threatened in the home second when Boesch singled, stole second and took third on a grounder by Peralta. Boesch then took off for the plate on tapper toward the right side of the mound by Avila, but was easily thrown out at home by Bush. Inge and Austin Jackson both walked to load the bases for Will Rhymes, who grounded out to end the inning.

Michael Young went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak against Detroit to 15 games…The Rangers were 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

After ending their three-game winning streak with Tuesday’s 5-4 victory, the Detroit Tigers have another chance to win their first series of the season and end their opening homestand on a high note.

Max Scherzer takes the mound today, looking for his third win of the year. And if he pulls that off, he’ll be the first Tigers starting pitcher to win his first three starts since Mike Maroth did it in 2006. After a shaky first start against the Yankees, Scherzer held the Royals to one run over six innings last Friday.

Meanwhile, Josh Hamilton and his broken arm suffered in a head-first slide during Tuesday’s loss are the talk of baseball. The reigning AL MVP will be out for six to eight weeks as a result of the injury, and the Rangers begin figuring out how to deal with that on Wednesday.

Here are the starting lineups:

Texas Rangers
1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
2. Elvis Andrus, SS
3. Michael Young, DH
4. Adrian Beltre, 3B
5. Nelson Cruz, RF
6. David Murphy, LF
7. Mike Napoli, C
8. Mitch Moreland, 1B
9. Julio Borbon, CF

Detroit Tigers
1. Austin Jackson, CF
2. Will Rhymes, 2B
3. Ryan Raburn, LF
4. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
5. Victor Martinez, DH
6. Brennan Boesch, RF
7. Jhonny Peralta, SS
8. Alex Avila, C
9. Brandon Inge, 3B

Pitching for the Rangers is Dave Bush, who’s making a spot start after a rainout on Friday forced Texas to play a doubleheader on Saturday and threw their starting rotation out of whack.

To be frank, the Tigers should pound this guy. Bush was 8-13 with a 4.54 ERA for the Brewers last season. And in two career starts against Detroit, he has an 0-2 record and 11.37 ERA. I probably just jinxed the Tigers with that.

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Miguel Cabrera's single with two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth inning lifted Detroit to 5-4 win over Texas in the second of a three-game set at Comerica Park.

Cabrera also doubled and Ryan Raburn went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk for Detroit, which snapped a three-game slide. Ramon Santiago, Victor Martinez and Brennan Boesch each drove in a run in the victory.

Brad Penny started and allowed three runs on seven hits, one walk and struck out two in 6 2/3 innings, but did not factor in the decision.

Michael Young went 3-for-3 with an RBI and score twice for the Rangers, who had won three in a row and nine of 10 to start the season.

Josh Hamilton, serving as the designated hitter, drove in a run with a triple, but left after only one at-bat with a strained right shoulder after trying to score on an infield pop out in foul territory in the first inning. He was apparently hurt when he tried to elude a tag on a head-first slide at the plate.

C.J. Wilson got the starting nod for Texas and pitched to a no-decision. The left-hander yielded four runs on seven hits and three walks in 6 2/3 frames. He finished with four strikeouts.

The Texas Rangers have pitched 25 consecutive scoreless innings, going back to the second game of their doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. (Adam Jones hit a second-inning home run in Game 2 of the twinbill.) That includes Monday’s shutout of the Detroit Tigers by Alexi Ogando and two relievers.

Can the Tigers break that streak in Tuesday’s matinee? Perhaps more importantly, can they get their offense going?

Magglio Ordonez in the lineup probably would’ve helped with that, especially with left-hander C.J. Wilson pitching for Texas. But he’s out of the lineup with inflammation in his right ankle. (To be more specific, it’s the bursa sac between the heel and ankle.) Casper Wells starts in his place in right field.

Brennan Boesch is in the lineup against the left-handed Wilson. That probably wouldn’t be the case normally, but the Tigers are short-handed with Ordonez out. Plus, Boesch actually hits lefties quite well, compiling a .337/.408/.548 average.

Here are the starting lineups:

Detroit Tigers
1. Austin Jackson, CF
2. Ramon Santiago, 2B
3. Ryan Raburn, LF
4. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
5. Victor Martinez, C
6. Brennan Boesch, DH
7. Jhonny Peralta, SS
8. Brandon Inge, 3B
9. Casper Wells, RF

Texas Rangers
1. Elvis Andrus, SS
2. Michael Young, 2B
3. Josh Hamilton, DH
4. Adrian Beltre, 3B
5.
Pitching for the Tigers is Brad Penny. He performed better in his second start of the season than in his debut, but still gave up four runs in 5 1/3 innings to the Orioles. He hasn’t made it through six innings in either of his starts and has allowed 12 runs,13 hits and seven walks in 9 2/3 innings.

In what’s already been a disappointing start to the 2011 season, the Detroit Tigers may have had their most maddening performance yet in a lackluster 2-0 loss to the Texas Rangers Monday afternoon.

The Tigers wasted an outstanding effort from Justin Verlander, in which he allowed only two runs and six hits in a complete game. (As the Dallas Morning News’ Evan Grant points out, that’s the first time Verlander pitched nine innings and took a loss.)

Verlander didn’t allow any runs until the seventh inning, when the Rangers broke through on a RBI double from Michael Young. Mitch Moreland added another RBI double with two outs in the inning, driving in Young.

That’s all the Rangers needed, as the Tigers’ lineup offered no resistance against Alexi Ogando, making only the second start of his career.

But maybe that’s not giving Ogando enough credit. He pitched six shutout innings in his debut versus the Seattle Mariners, and added seven more Monday at Comerica Park. Not only has Ogando allowed no runs in two starts, but he’s only given up four hits in 13 innings. The Mariners were expected to have a bad offense this year, but how about the Tigers? Their lineup is presumed to be the team’s strength.

Ogando may have pitched a complete game himself, having thrown only 79 pitches after the seventh inning. But he developed fluid under a callous on his right index finger and was taken out of the game. Unfortunately, the Tigers didn’t fare much better against relievers Darren Oliver and Neftali Feliz.

Detroit did muster a threat in the ninth inning against Feliz. After a Ryan Raburn double, Miguel Cabrera was intentionally walked. Putting the tying run on base intentionally is normally an eyebrow-raising move, but Cabrera is 1-for-3 versus Feliz with a home run, so perhaps Ron Washington didn’t want to take a chance.

That gave Victor Martinez an opportunity to show exactly why the Tigers signed him in the offseason, to protect Cabrera in the lineup and punish teams for not pitching to the Tigers’ first baseman. Unfortunately, Martinez grounded out to second base on a 2-0 pitch to end the game.

The loss drops the Tigers to 3-7, keeping them in last place in the AL Central. The Rangers, meanwhile, improve to 9-1. That’s the best start in franchise history and also currently the top record in the major leagues.

The Detroit Tigers blew an excellent opportunity to even up their record in their first home series of the season. Perhaps the Kansas City Royals are better than most of us expected, but that's a team the Tigers should at least win a series from, especially at home.

Instead, the Tigers lost two of three and now welcome the team with the best record in all of baseball. The Texas Rangers are 8-1, boosted by a 6-0 home record, looking like they're eager to prove last year's World Series run was no fluke.

In recent seasons, the Rangers have had difficulty winning at Comerica Park, losing 11 in a row at the Tigers' home park from 2007 to 2009. But Texas seems to have overcome that hurdle with a 2-1 record at Detroit last year.

Justin Verlander is on the mound for the Tigers, probably just the guy you want to see against a team like the Rangers. He has a 6-1 record and 2.37 ERA versus Texas in eight career starts, but did not face them last season.

Alexi Ogando starts for the Rangers, making just his second appearance as a starting pitcher after pitching entirely out of the bullpen last season. In his debut start, Ogando held the Mariners to no runs and two hits over six innings. He made three appearances versus the Tigers last year, compiling a 3.86 ERA.

Austin Jackson is getting the day off Jim Leyland said he needed, after getting a somewhat surprising start on Sunday. Don Kelly subs in for him in center field, with Will Rhymes moving up to the leadoff spot. Here are the starting lineups:

Detroit Tigers
1. Will Rhymes, 2B
2. Brennan Boesch, LF
3. Magglio Ordonez, RF
4. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
5.
