Outfielder Magglio Ordonez completed his rehab assignment with the Toledo Mud Hens over the weekend. On Monday, he was reinstated from the disabled list.

Ordonez will play in right field for the Detroit Tigers as they take on the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night. He will bat sixth for Detroit in what is his first game with the team since May 10. His spot in the lineup is right behind Victor Martinez and ahead of Jhonny Peralta.

With Ordonez returning from the DL, the Tigers outrighted the contract of pitcher Enrique Gonzalez to Toledo. Since catcher Omir Santos was sent down when Phil Coke came off the DL, the Tigers had an extra pitcher on the roster. To get their roster back to normal, Gonzalez was sent packing to make room for Ordonez.

When he went on the DL, Ordonez was only hitting .172 and had all of one home run and five RBI. The hope is he will play much better now that he's healthier, giving the Tigers a spark in the bottom half of their lineup. The Tigers certainly haven't struggled without Ordonez, so getting an improved Magglio back would be a very nice addition going forward.

The Toledo Blade's John Wagner reports that outfielder Magglio Ordonez is going to rejoin the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. He will likely be activated from the disabled list on Monday, although nothing appears to be concrete just yet.

Ordonez played nine games during his rehab assignment with the Mud Hens. Here is a look at his stats while with Toledo:

Magglio Ordonez finished his nine-game stint with the Mud Hens with a .297 batting average (11-for-37). His 11 hits included one double and a pair of home runs, each of the last two days. He scored three runs and had six RBIs, three of which came last night. He also walked twice and struck out nine times.

When Ordonez is activated, the Tigers will likely send down a pitcher since they have an extra one right now. When Phil Coke was activated from the DL earlier this week, Omir Santos was sent down to Toledo, resulting in the extra pitcher.

The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder Magglio Ordonez on the disabled list on Friday. Ordonez has been dealing with a sore right ankle and has struggled at the plate, and he is going on the DL with "right ankle weakness."

Ordonez's replacement on the roster is Andy Dirks, who was been lights out at the plate in Toledo. In 34 games with the Mud Hens, Dirks had a .328 average, six home runs and 20 runs batted in. He also stole 10 bases and scored 25 runs. Needless to say, this is a move fans have been anticipating for a while now.

Ordonez's time on the 15-day DL is retroactive to Wednesday. While on the DL, he will likely meet with Dr. Phillip Kwong -- the man who performed surgery on Ordonez's broken ankle last year -- in Los Angeles for further evaluation. The Tigers want to make sure Ordonez can get healthy, which will in turn hopefully allow him to play much better.
