Cleveland's history is not lost on Nate Burleson. He understands that "Detroit without the glitter" has never won a championship -- ironically, like the team he currently plays for -- and that his best touchdown celebration when visiting the city should somehow poke fun at its scanty sports history.
↵
He followed through in Friday night's preseason game after his spectacular catch in the back of the end zone. Burleson decided to hot route his contrived celebration by hitting spurned Dawg Pound fans right where it'd hurt the most, mocking the guy who just took his talents to South Beach a year ago:
↵
↵
"It was a LeBron thing," Burleson explained today. "I wasn’t going to do it. See, I had a plan. I had two celebrations planned. I was going to catch the ball, get up, do the shot by (Michael) Jordan (against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1989 NBA playoffs) and the three pumps. I’ve got it all down. I’ve seen it like a million times.
↵
"But then when I got in the end zone, I was waiting for the ref, and then when I looked at the crowd, the Dawg Pound went crazy. They were cussing me out, talking about my momma, so I was like forget that. Where’s the powder at. Voom."
↵
↵
Too easy. You can watch the video of Burleson's touchdown and subsequent celebration here.

There was some concern during Friday night's Lions-Browns game that Detroit running back Jahvid Best was being tested for a concussion. He took a couple of hits and fumbled on one of the first plays of the game, and the coaches kept him on the bench for the remainder of the night.

Following the game, Lions head coach Jim Schwartz downplayed the concerns over Best's health by making it sound like Best was removed from the game for precautionary reasons more than anything.

"I honestly don't have an update," Schwartz said after the game. "He got hit on the sideline on the one and he was a little woozy so we just kept him out of the game the rest of the way."

Best said he left the game because he "wasn't feeling right," but he's "not concerned at all." In fact, had this been a regular season game, Best says he would have continued playing.

After playing so well last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Jim Schwartz seemed pretty disappointed with a rather sloppy effort in the first half this week against the Cleveland Browns. The Lions are down at halftime by a score of 21-13 and just have not played all that well thanks to a combination of penalties and mishaps on defense.

The good news is that the first-team offense looked pretty good. Aside from a turnover by Jahvid Best, the first-team offense was great when it was in the game. Matthew Stafford went 6-for-10 for 85 yards and threw a four-yard pass to Nate Burleson for a touchdown. Burleson somehow got two feet down in the back of the end zone for his second outstanding touchdown in as many weeks.

Before the Lions got on the board, Cleveland capitalized on Best's fumble by putting together a six-play, 34-yard touchdown drive. It was capped off by a two-yard pass from Colt McCoy to Evan Moore in the end zone for McCoy's first of three TD passes. He had another one to Moore -- for 21 yards in the second quarter this time -- and he also completed a 13-yard TD pass to Greg Little.

Jason Hanson successfully kicked two field goals for the Lions in the first half. One was from 25 yards out and the other sneaked inside the right upright from 49 yards away.

Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best fumbled the ball away to the Cleveland Browns in the first quarter of the game. Best didn't return to the game after the fumble, and the thinking early on was that Jim Schwartz benched him because of the turnover.

As it turns out, Best may have been injured on the play. According to WXYZ's Tom Leyden, trainers were looking into Best's eyes with light. Best stood up for a while after the examination, and after he sat back down the training staff decided to take him to the locker room.

The official word from the Lions is that Best was taken to the locker room for "further observation." Right now that's all we know.

There's no word if Best is injured or not, but based on what Leyden reported it seems like the training staff was checking to see if Best has a concussion. Considering Best has a history of concussions, it would not be good news for him or the Lions if he does in fact have one.

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns each hope to build off impressive 2011 preseason debuts when the two teams square off Friday at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

The Browns got the Pat Shurmur era off to a very good start, with the club outperforming the defending world champion Green Bay Packers in its first outing under its new head coach. Cleveland came through with a 27-17 home victory over the Packers last Saturday, with an exceptionally sharp showing from young quarterback Colt McCoy leading the way.

McCoy looked like a natural running Shurmur's West Coast offense, as the former University of Texas star orchestrated touchdown drives on two of three series before giving way to backup Seneca Wallace. McCoy completed 9-of-10 passes for 135 yards, including a 27-yard scoring strike to wide receiver Joshua Cribbs on the opening possession, prior to exiting.

Detroit will be aiming for a second consecutive win over an AFC North opponent this week, having previously routed wayward Cincinnati by a 34-3 count in its preseason opener. The Lions also received an outstanding night from their No. 1 quarterback in the win, while the defense limited the Bengals to just 205 total yards and forced three turnovers.

Matthew Stafford showed no signs of rust in the oft-injured triggerman's first game action since November, as the No. 1 overall pick of the 2009 draft made good on 6-of-7 pass attempts for 71 yards and connected with Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson on first-quarter touchdowns that staked Detroit to a 14-0 lead.

Johnson left the game early with a bruised shoulder, though the injury isn't expected to keep the Pro Bowl receiver out of the lineup on Friday. Rookie wideout Titus Young, however, will miss a second straight contest for the Lions due to a nagging hamstring problem.

McCoy may be going up against a short-handed Detroit secondary, as starting cornerbacks Chris Houston and Eric Wright are both dealing with groin injuries and may be held out this week. Wright signed with the Lions just prior to camp after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Browns.

Detroit also won't have 2011 first-round pick Nick Fairley available once again, with the promising defensive tackle likely to sit out the entire preseason after recently undergoing foot surgery.

The Browns will be minus wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, who also did not play in last week's tilt due to a chip fracture in his left ankle. Also, defensive starters Chris Gocong (shoulder), Scott Fujita (thigh) and Usama Young (hamstring) all missed practice time this week and are uncertain to participate in this game.

Cleveland running back Montario Hardesty, who spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve with a torn ACL, did return to team drills on Monday, though it's unclear as to whether he'll be cleared to play against the Lions.

One area to watch on the Detroit side is the ongoing battle at backup running back, where a pair of ex-Browns -- Jerome Harrison and Mike Bell -- are competing with veteran Maurice Morris to serve as Jahvid Best's understudy.

These two franchises have met in the preseason every year since 2002, with the Lions owning a 22-19-1 edge in the overall exhibition series following last season's 35-27 triumph at Ford Field.

Schwartz wants to see how things go in warm-ups before declaring them out.

Also likely out are running back Maurice Morris, wide receiver Titus Young, defense tackle Andre Fluellen and cornerback Alphonso Smith. None of these players have practiced recently, so chances are they won't play on Friday when the Lions hit the field for their second game of the preseason.
