Denard Robinson didn’t have his best stuff through the air against Eastern Michigan. Luckily he still had his legs.

Robinson ran for 198 yards and a score and threw for two more as the Wolverines amassed 376 rushing yards in a 31-3 win over EMU.

Vincent Smith added 118 yards on just nine carries for Michigan, who ran their record to 3-0. Brady Hoke, coaching his 100th career game, got back to .500 for his career at 50-50.

EMU controlled the early part of the game, but turnovers prevented the Eagles from capitalizing on their success. Running back Javonti Greene fumbled in Michigan territory on their first possession, and backup quarterback Tyler Benz was picked off in the end zone on a trick play.

Michigan didn’t score in the first quarter for the third straight game and trailed 3-0 after an early second quarter field goal, but Robinson finally got things going on offense. After Thomas Gordon made the interception of Benz, Robinson orchestrated a 97-yard drive that ended with a short touchdown toss to tight end Kevin Koger. Michigan never trailed again.

They took a 14-3 lead into the break on a six-play drive at the end of the half that featured all runs, in what would become the theme of the day for Michigan. Michigan ran 69 plays on the afternoon, 50 of them runs.

The Wolverines picked up right where they left off after halftime with Fitzgerald Toussaint punching in a 1-yard score to push the lead to 21-3. Robinson threw his second touchdown pass of the game to Drew Dileo with a little over a minute left in the third.

Brendan Gibbons made Michigan’s first field goal of the year in the fourth, a 21-yard chip shot, to make it 31-3

Michigan’s rushing game has pounded Eastern Michigan into submission by rushing for over 300 yards and tacking on two third quarter touchdowns for a 28-3 lead.

Fitzgerald Toussaint and Denard Robinson both ran for scores in the third quarter for Michigan, who have amassed over 300 yards on the ground early in the fourth quarter.

Robinson has not been so hot through the air, completing just 6-of-15 passes for 72 yards, though he did throw a second quarter touchdown to tight end Kevin Koger.

While the passing game has stumbled a bit, the defense has been outstanding since allowing some lengthy early EMU drives. Eastern has turned the ball over twice in the game and picked up zero first downs in the third quarter.

Robinson himself has rushed for 190 yards and has two scores, one on the ground and two in the air, for Michigan while Vincent Smith has 118 yards on just nine carries. Fitgerald Toussaint has 40 yards and a touchdown on ten carries.

Denard Robinson and Michigan’s offense have finally woken up in the second quarter and given Michigan a 14-3 halftime lead.

Eastern Michigan took a 3-0 lead on an early second quarter field goal, but Robinson has rushed for 131 yards and engineered a pair of touchdown drives to take control of the game. However, it didn’t come easily.

Eastern was looking for more after forcing Michigan to a three-and-out, but Thomas Gordon made an incredible one-handed interception near the end zone on a trick double-pass play by EMU backup quarterback Tyler Benz. Gordon also recovered a fumble on EMU’s first possession of the game in Michigan territory.

Robinson then took over and marched the Wolverines 97 yards in nine plays, highlighted by a 52-yard scramble on first down that got Michigan in business. Robinson capped the drive by hitting tight end Kevin Koger for a 9-yard touchdown — his second completion of the day.

The teams went back and forth with a few three-and-out drives before Michigan got the ball back near the end of the half. Michigan pounded EMU with six straight runs that was capped by an 11-yard scamper for Robinson to make it 14-3.

Michigan’s bend-but-don’t break defense did its job in the first quarter, but Eastern Michigan has tacked on a field goal early in the second quarter for a 3-0 lead.

The defense stopped a fourth-and-goal at the 1-yard line and forced a fumble, but Michigan’s offense has looked like a shell of the one that scored four fourth quarter touchdowns last week against Notre Dame. Michigan has just 31 yards of total offense to Eastern’s 140.

EMU took the opening drive into Michigan territory on the game’s first possession, but Javonti Greene fumbled and Thomas Gordon fell on it for Michigan for yet another turnover for the Wolverine defense.

Michigan was unable to do anything with the ball on the ensuing possession, as Denard Robinson was intercepted after going went for it on fourth down from the EMU 34. Robinson has yet to complete a pass, missing on his first five attempts, and has rushed for 19 yards on four carries.

(Sports Network) - The Eastern Michigan Eagles will test their perfect record in Ann Arbor this weekend in a non-conference clash with the Michigan Wolverines, who are fresh off a historic win over Notre Dame last weekend.

Eastern Michigan is in its third year under former Michigan defensive coordinator Ron English, who has his team off to a 2-0 start with home wins over Howard and Alabama State. Now English will try to navigate through a daunting two-game stretch that includes visits to Michigan and Penn State the next two weeks, before opening the MAC schedule with Akron at home. Eastern Michigan, which has won its first two games of the season for the first time since 1989, has been outscored 296-59 in matchups with Michigan.

Michigan is flying high after putting together a furious fourth-quarter comeback to beat rival Notre Dame 35-31 last weekend in Ann Arbor, in the first game ever played under the lights at Michigan Stadium. It has been a wild first two weeks for the Wolverines and new head coach Brady Hoke, who led his team to a win over Western Michigan in a weather-shortened game in the opener. The Wolverines, who are 2-0 for the third consecutive season, are in the middle of a five-game homestand at the Big House, with home dates set with San Diego State and Minnesota following this weekend's instate clash with Eastern Michigan.

Michigan leads the series 9-0, with all nine games being played in Ann Arbor. Michigan's last win over Eastern Michigan came in 2009.

Eastern Michigan put up 41 points in its opening win against Howard, but had to squeak out a 14-7 win last week against Alabama State. The bottom line is that the Eagles have still managed to register 419 yards of total offense in two wins, with 331 of those yards coming on the ground. The offense is led by running backs Dominique Sherrer and Javonti Greene, who have both ran for over 100 yards in each of the first two games, marking the first time in school history that has happened. Greene is second in the MAC in rushing with 133 per contest. Quarterback Alex Gillett, who has made 17 career starts and is currently ranked sixth in total yards in program history, has completed 19- of-40 passes for 176 yards, two interceptions and three touchdowns through two games.

While the Eagles have been effective in establishing the run so far this season, the defense has been equally effective stopping it. Eastern Michigan held Alabama State to minus-13 yards rushing, which set the school record. The Eagles are allowing just 41.5 yards rushing through two games and 212 total offensive yards. Eastern Michigan is 4-0 when allowing under 100 yards or less under English, whose aggressive scheme produced eight quarterback sacks and 13 tackles for loss against Alabama State. English will have his hands full this weekend preparing for one of college football's most gifted players at quarterback.

Denard Robinson vaulted himself into the Heisman Trophy discussion for the second consecutive season with a dazzling performance against Notre Dame, where Michigan erased a 17-point fourth quarter deficit and won the game on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Robinson to Roy Roundtree with two seconds left. Robinson threw for a career high 338 yards and four touchdowns, and when the dust had settled, was responsible for 446 of Michigan's 452 total yards (including 108 yards rushing and a touchdown on 16 carries). Behind Robinson, the Michigan offense has centered on big-plays; all five of Michigan's scoring drives against the Fighting Irish totaled 306 yards on just 19 plays. Junior Hemingway leads the team in both receptions and yards receiving, with four catches totaling 202 yards.

The Michigan defense was front and center in the season-opening win over Western Michigan, turning a close game into a rout in large part due to linebacker Brandon Herron, His first career start came in the opener against the Broncos, where he posted a 94-yard interception return for a touchdown and a 29-yard fumble return for another score. Despite allowing Notre Dame to jump out to an early lead that lasted most of the game, the Michigan defense settled in and caused five turnovers, which was vital to the comeback effort. The Wolverines are allowing 396 yards of total offense per game through two games, and will try to clean up penalties (17 through two games) against the Eagles.

Robinson and the Wolverines have been slow to start the first two games, being held scoreless in the first quarter against both Western Michigan and Notre Dame. But Michigan has finished both contests in compelling fashion, and Robinson is the home-run threat no team wants to deal with at any point this season. Eastern Michigan competed well in the first half in 2009 against Michigan, and that may happen again this time around. Just don't expect it to last.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Michigan 45, Eastern Michigan 14

For more on Michigan, check out Maize n Brew, and for more on the Big Ten, check out Off Tackle Empire.

After an eventful first two weeks of the college football season, Michigan is looking for a more relaxing game on Saturday. The Eastern Michigan Eagles come to town, and although you never should write any opponent off, the expectation is for Michigan to cruise to a victory.

One thing Michigan has to make sure it avoids is a letdown after last week's thrilling win against Notre Dame. Understandably, it might be a bit tough for some players to get up for a noon game against EMU after beating ND on a last-second touchdown in the first ever night game in Michigan Stadium history. Even so, Michigan needs to bring its A game and improve upon its performances the last two weeks. The Wolverines may be 2-0, but they need to get much better before the Big Ten schedule begins.
