The Detroit Red Wings may have got a little lucky early on in their game against the Boston Bruins. Henrik Zetterberg fed Valtteri Flippula in the first period, giving the Red Wings a 1-0 lead they'd take into the second, despite being out-shot 13-6 in the first. Boston would eventually respond, when Jimmy Howard mis-played a puck behind the net that went to Nathan Horton, and then to Daniel Paille, who put it in net before Howard could get back in position.

Regaining the lead was no lucky thing for Detroit, though, as Pavel Datsyuk simply beat Tuukka Rask less than a minute later. The Bruins came back to tie it in the third period though, Patrice Bergeron getting the goal. That score held, and the game went to overtime. Boston swarmed in overtime, keeping the puck in Detroit's zone for the majority of the time, but the game ended up going to the shootout.

The Bruins had their first shot blocked in the shootout, and Pavel Datsyuk had his go in. Boston had their second shot blocked as well, but Hudler couldn't seal the deal for Detroit. That gave Horton a chance, and he came back to beat Howard over the left shoulder. Bertuzzi came out for Detroit, and he was able to beat Rask, giving Detroit a 3-2 win in the shootout.

Boston ended up out-shooting Detroit 18-10 in the third period, and dominated the stat 43-31 overall. They also out-hit Detroit 30-22, though Detroit held the advantage in the faceoffs, winning 28 to Boston's 27. Howard stopped 41 of 43, while Rask made 29 of 31 saves. The win snaps a 10 game winning streak for the Bruins and gives Detroit their fourth straight.

The Detroit Red Wings entered the second period being outshot, but were winning 1-0 despite that fact. The Boston Bruins kept up their pressure, though, and tied it four minutes into the second frame. Jimmy Howard played the puck behind the net and tried to get it back across to one of his guys, but it was stolen by Nathan Horton, who fed Daniel Paille. Paille was able to put it into the net before Howard could get back into position.

It didn't take long for Detroit to re-take the lead though, as Pavel Datsyuk did what only Pavel Datsyuk could do. Taking a pass alone in front of the net, he kicked it forward, then back, and simply slid it right under the leg of Tuukka Rask, giving Detroit the lead back less than a minute later.

That turned the tide of the game around, and Detroit recovered from being outshot 13-6 in the first period by outshooting the Bruins 14-10 in the second, but ultimately trail in that regard 23-20. Detroit has won more faceoffs and trail in the hit stat by just one.

The Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins have been slugging it out on NBC's Thanksgiving Showdown, and it was the Detroit who lit the lamp first. Henrik Zetterberg took the puck into Boston's zone and threw a pass through a couple players, put beautifully on the end of Valtteri Flippula's stick across the ice at 12:43 into the period. Ian White also picked up an assist on the goal.

It was Detroit's first shot in several minutes, as they were outshot at that point 11-3, though hits (5-5) and faceoffs (7-7) were tied up between the two teams. Jimmy Howard was forced to make a great save early on when he went post to post, but then again, he's done that all year.

Boston had some great chances near the end of the first, when Jiri Hudler went to the box for hooking at 17:34. Detroit would go on to have an excellent penalty kill, however, and the period came to an end with Detroit leading 1-0. They were outshot in the period, 13-6.

For more on the Detroit Red Wings, go to Winging It In Motown.

In the first and only meeting between the team teams this year, the Detroit Red Wings will take on the Boston Bruins on Friday. The two teams are meeting for the Thanksgiving Showdown on NBC, and there's a lot at stake. Not only is it the inagural Thanksgiving Showdown, it's a meeting between two teams constantly on the prowl for the Stanley Cup. The Red Wings have been contenders for years, while the Bruins just took the Cup last season.

Boston is really riding hot, after a horrible 3-7 start, they've taken their last ten straight games. They're scoring just under five goals a game average in that stretch, so Jimmy Howard needs to be on notice for Detroit. The Wings know all about streaks, having won five, lost six, won four, lost four and now are on another three-game winning streak heading into this game in Boston.

Detroit beat the Flames 5-3 in their last outing on Wednesday and need to get some measure of a longer winning streak going with this game, because if the season continues going the same way it has been, they could be on a losing streak after this.

The game is set for 1:00 p.m. eastern and is on NBC.
