On Friday, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh released a statement through his attorney responding to the lawsuit the was filed against him on Thursday stemming from a car accident he was involved in back in December.

In the statement, Suh acknowledges that he is willing to give the complainant, Saadia Van Winkle (the passenger in the one-car accident), fair compensation for any injuries she sustained, but he denies the majority of the accusations levied in the suit. Via the Detroit Free Press:

"Ms Van Winkle was a passenger in a vehicle Mr Suh was driving last December when he was involved in an unfortunate accident," attorney Mike Lehner said in a written statement. "Ms Van Winkle suffered minor injuries in that accident, was examined at the hospital and released that night. Mr Suh immediately called 911 to report the accident and told the police exactly what happened. After a thorough investigation by the police they determined no citation should be issued.

"Mr Suh acknowledges Ms Van Winkle should receive fair compensation for any injury she sustained or medical expense or wage loss she incurred and Mr Suh has attempted to resolve the matter fairly with her. She has rejected those attempts and has now filed a lawsuit against Mr Suh asking for more than $1,000,000. According to that lawsuit she has incurred approximately $4,000 in medical expenses, and lost wages in the amount of $2500. Mr Suh denies many of the allegations in the complaint, but now it appears a jury will have to decide how to fairly compensate Ms Van Winkle for her injury."

The Detroit Lions continue to make news off the field for the wrong reasons. This time it's defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who, true to his last name, is being sued.

Suh was in a car accident in Oregon last December, and he is now being hit with a $1 million lawsuit, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

The accident took place during Suh's two-game suspension last season. Some of the passengers in the car accused Suh of lying about what happened.

Suh does not face any action from the local police, who decided there was not enough there to charge him with anything.

Ndamukong Suh was involved in an automobile crash in Portland, Ore., over the weekend, though initial reports indicated that everyone was fine and the Detroit Lions defensive tackle was not at fault. The passengers in Suh's classic car have apparently changed their stories since, however, as they are now saying he lied to the police.

The new details come by way of KGW in Portland, Suh's hometown and apparent location as he awaits the end of his two-game suspension.

Two of the people who were passengers in the car have since come forward with information that disputes Suh's story and the amended police report also quotes a third passenger who said she, too, was injured in the crash.

"When the light turned green, he floored it," one of the passengers told KGW. "I just remember going so fast and it was violent and just getting thrown around like rag dolls."

The woman said she was injured in the crash and on Monday, she had a cut upper eyebrow, a black eye and a busted lip, which she said had required stitches. A second passenger backed up her claims but did not want to speak on camera.

It doesn't appear that Suh is facing any further scrutiny from the police, however, as a spokesman issued the following statement to KGW.

"At no point did anyone there tell an officer that he [Suh] was driving out of control," said Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau. "The crash doesn't meet our threshold for investigation which is vulnerable road user, DUI, or serious trauma injury."

Initial reports of Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh smashing his 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS into a tree after leaving a nightclub at 1:15 a.m. certainly evoked thoughts of a situation that was far worse than it appears to be.

Trees usually win against moving cars, then you throw a light pole into the mix, and the next thought is to wonder what type of injuries the driver suffered. In this case, Suh was not injured, so the next logical thought is to wonder how messed up Suh was considering the time and place the accident occurred.

Suh wasn't messed up at all, as the early reports indicated and according to a statement from Portland police, this was simply a run of the mill traffic accident and Suh was just your run of the mill shaken up driver following a sudden accident.

"He wasn't drunk and wasn't driving crazy or anything. He wasn't a jerk," said Sgt. Peter Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau. "I think he stomped on the gas when he was going around a taxi and lost the back end, spun around and hit a tree and a light pole and a (drinking) fountain. No injuries to anybody and he didn't hit any other cars."

In other words, nothing to see here, move along. So the only bad news to come from this accident for Suh is the cost of repairing his Chevelle.

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who was just suspended by the NFL for two games due to his Thanksgiving stomp, was involved in a car accident in Portland on Saturday morning. Nobody was injured and it's being reported he simply lost control of his vehicle.

It's been a rough week and a half for Ndamukong Suh, and it just got a little worse according to reports out of his hometown.

Jason Quick, who reports on the Trail Blazers for the Oregonian in Portland, first tweeted the news about 20 minutes ago that Suh lost control of his vehicle and wrecked it early this morning. KoinLocal6.com has the story:

Officers arrived found a 1970 Chevrolet Coupe that crashed into a tree. Officers learned that the driver, 24-year-old Ndamukong Suh of Portland, lost control of the car as he drove southbound on 3rd Avenue crossing Burnside and hit a curb, light pole, drinking fountain, and a tree.

Officers spoke with Suh and determined that he was not impaired and simply lost control of his vehicle. Neither Suh or his two passengers were injured in the crash and Suh was polite and cooperative with the officers.

Suh simply losing control? We've heard that before. Quick tweeted that he was out around that time and that it was below freezing, but didn't think the roads were icy. We'll update you, if more details emerge.
