The Michigan State Spartans jumped on the visiting Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks early and never let up, rolling to a 110-68 win at the Breslin Center.

Mavericks guard C.J. Carter opened the game with a three-pointer to give the visitors an early 3-0 lead and from there is was all Michigan State. Before Nebraska-Omaha knew it, the Spartans were up 22-7 as they dominated play at both ends of the floor and took a 59-26 lead to the half.

Michigan State was able to cruise through the second half as coach Tom Izzo was able to spread the minutes throughout the entire roster while still putting up a 50-point half (51) against the Mavericks.

The Spartans overwhelmed Nebraska-Omaha with their physical play, destroying the Mavericks on the glass with a 53 to 15 rebound advantage. Draymond Green led the way for Michigan State with 23 points and 10 rebounds in just 24 minutes of play. Brandon Wood scored 20 points, making 8 of 10 shots while guard Keith Appling did a little bit of everything, finishing with 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Nebraska-Omaha, playing in their first season in Division I, was led by Mitch Albers scoring 17 points, three fewer than his team-leading 20 points per game average.

After winning their sixth straight game, Michigan State is now 6-2 on the season with one more tune up against Central Connecticut State on Wednesday before playing at No. 19 Gonzaga next Saturday.

For more on the Spartans, check out The Only Colors

The Michigan State Spartans have won five straight games since starting the season with consecutive losses (against North Carolina and Duke), and they shouldn't have any problems extending that winning streak to six games on Sunday afternoon.

At 2 p.m. eastern, the Spartans tip off against the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks, a Division II team from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

The Mavericks are 3-5 this season, but are coming off a win against the Northern Illinois Huskies. Michigan State is the biggest non-conference game on the Nebraska-Omaha schedule, so the Mavs will definitely be jacked up for this game at Breslin. Who knows, maybe the Spartans basketball team is depressed with the rest of Sparty nation after last night's heartbreaking football loss and the Mavericks will catch them off-guard. Don't bet on it, though.
