The Detroit Pistons lost their third straight game on Wednesday night, falling to the Denver Nuggets in a shootout, 116-115.

The Pistons trailed by as many as 25 points in the first quarter, but came all the way back to take a tie game into the fourth quarter behind 42 points from Ben Gordon. Yes, 42 points from Ben Gordon through three quarters.

The Pistons managed to lose despite having a three-point lead with five seconds remaining in the game. Gordon inexplicably fouled Arron Afflalo when he was going for a layup that would've cut the lead to one, but instead was provided a free opportunity to tie the game by completing a three-point play.

The potential three-point play turned into a four-point play, though, when Afflalo's missed free throw was tipped back by Javale McGee, who wasn't even close to being boxed out. The Pistons had one last opportunity to win, but Gordon missed a long two.

Gordon was just 1-for-5 shooting in the fourth and finished with 45 points. He tied an NBA record for three-pointers without a miss by hitting all nine of his tries. It's the second time he's done it in his career. He also had eight assists

Greg Monroe finished with a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists.

The Pistons return home for a game against the Heat on Friday before hitting the road again for four more.

The Detroit Pistons are playing without Rodney Stuckey on Wednesday night and it appeared to be a major problem in the first quarter. Denver went off on the Pistons for 40 points and took a 22-point lead into the second behind 84-percent shooting. Despite leading by as many as 24 points, the Pistons are down just five at the half, 62-57.

In the second quarter, Stuckey's replacement went off himself. Ben Gordon scored 21 of his game-high 27 points, including 5-for-5 from beyond the arc to help bring the Pistons all the way back to within five five. Will Bynum, who hasn't played since February 28, added 10 points off the bench.

Detroit is shooting 52-percent and has seven extra freebies to keep them in this game.

The Detroit Pistons will look to snap a two game losing streak at the end of a road trip in the Mile High City against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.

The Denver Nuggets have looked far more likely to make the playoffs this season than the Detroit Pistons, but they got dealt a bit of a blow in their last game when Danilo Gallinari and Andre Miller went down with injury.

Detroit will try and snap a two game losing streak with a win on Wednesday night over the Nuggets in Denver, with far fewer injuries to their name. Greg Monroe and Tayshaun Prince both performed well in the Pistons last game, a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, and will need to pour in the points to take advantage of the injured Nuggets. This game will conclude the five game road trip that Detroit has been on the past week.

The Pistons have lost their last three games against the Denver Nuggets and will need to contain one of the NBA's best offenses, as the Nuggets have averaged 103.5 points per game. Watch for former Wizard JaVale McGee to get his first minutes as a Nugget after being traded for Nene at the trade deadline.

The game will be at Pepsi Center at 9:00 p.m. ET.
