The Detroit Lions' Nick Fairley has a court date for his DUI charge set for early February.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley will be due in a Mobile (Ala.) County circuit court on Feb. 7, when a hearing regarding his DUI charge from May will take place, according to a report by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press on Friday.

This follows Fairley waiving an appearance in Mobile's circuit court on Thursday, as the two-year pro out of Auburn entered a not guilty plea.

The plea comes from May 27, when Fairley was arrested for what was the second time in the same number of months after a state trooper in Alabama said Fairley drove by his patrol vehicle going at a speed of 100 mph.

If a plea can't be reached at the time of the Feb. 7 court date, a trial would be set for Feb. 26. Additionally, according to the article, Fairley has another hearing scheduled for Nov. 27 regarding a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge following an arrest in April.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley's lawyer requested, "that the player be allowed to go through a pretrial diversion program instead of facing a trial in Alabama," on Wednesday, as Melissa Nelson Gabriel of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Fairley's trial in Mobile County District Court was scheduled to begin on Wednesday morning, but attorney Sid Harrell filed paperwork with the county requesting that Fairley undergo a first-time DUI course after stipulating a first-time DUI. Fairley was charged with DUI and attempting to elude police during the summer following his May 27 arrest.

Fairley was not in court on Wednesday, as he was participating in the Lions' practice in Allen Park during the morning. Harrell said that he expected a hearing to be scheduled for the pretrial diversion program sometime in the next two months, depending on Fairley's NFL schedule.

Over the first three games of the season, Fairley has recorded two tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley's trial date for his recent DUI arrest in Mobile, Ala., has been moved to 9:30 a.m. ET on Sept. 26, as the Detroit Free Press reports. Fairley is being charged with three different misdemeanors as a result of his May 27 arrest just outside of Mobile.

According to the report, Fairley has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and attempting to elude police in connection with his May arrest. Alabama State troopers say that Fairley's Cadillac Escalade passed a police car at 1:13 a.m. traveling about 100 m.p.h.

In addition to the pending court date for the DUI, Fairley also awaits a Nov. 27 hearing in Mobile Municipal Court for second-degree marijuana possession charges. It's unclear whether the Lions or league plans to punish Fairley for his actions, but it's going to be a while before things are all sorted out.

It was already reported that Roger Goodell was going to be visiting the Detroit Lions as part of his regularly-scheduled tour of NFL training camps on Thursday, but the thought that Goodell was coming to set some people straight in regards to offseason conduct was quickly extinguished -- once again, because Goodell had this scheduled months ago.

As it turns out, Goodell is going to spend a little extra time with a couple players. The Lions had seven offseason arrests this time around ... and not with seven players. Aaron Berry was already released for his multiple arrests, and the Lions have two other players on the roster who were arrested twice this offseason: running back Mikel Leshoure and defensive tackle Nick Fairley.

According to MLive.com, Goodell plans to meet with Fairley and Leshoure specifically after all of Thursday's practices are wrapped up. Goodell already touched on some of the issues when he met with the team early on Thursday, but he needs to spend some extra time with those players:

"You're an NFL player," Goodell said. "You have to conduct yourself in a certain way and hold yourself to that standard. We're going to expect that, and the club is going to expect that."

Leshoure has been handed a two-game suspension by the league for his offseason issues, while Fairley has yet to get any punishment, though one is still forthcoming. Fairley still has an ongoing court case, but the league may hand out some punishment before it wraps up. Goodell wants to make it clear that this thing is not okay, so it wouldn't be surprising if Goodell handed out punishment sooner rather than later -- to Fairley and to the Lions.

The oh-so-distant lockout of 2011 might have prohibited Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley from attending last summer's NFL's Rookie Symposium, but after a series of poor decisions this offseason put him under the watchful eye of commissioner Roger Goodell, the young defensive lineman willingly petitioned to join this year's event.
↵
In an effort to gain back some of the NFL's trust, Fairley put in a special request to the league to join the second half of the four-day camp that serves as an orientation of sorts for the spring's latest draftees. "Nick knows that his actions will speak louder than his words in accepting responsibility and moving forward," team president Tom Lewand said Thursday. "Asking to attend this year’s symposium is clearly a positive action and a step in the right direction."
↵
Whether this softens the blow of whatever the league might serve up for him in the fall or not, this is obviously a logical career decision by the second-year defensive tackle. It's clear that Fairley needs to clean up his act in a hurry if he wants to stay on the field, but it's at least good to see him trying to make amends.

The latest in the Nick Fairley saga comes from his lawyer, Sid Harrell, who said Wednesday that his client will plead not guilty to his misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and attempting to elude police in May outside Mobile, Alabama.

His arraignment is set for Thursday at 9:30 a.m. ET, via George Sipple and Kevin Bull of The Detroit Free Press. Harrell said he expects a trial date within 30-45 days in Mobile County District Court and doesn't yet know if a plea deal would be possible.

"I've not seen everything," Harrell said. "I still haven't talked to the troopers. I don't know every fact. It's still in an investigative stage."

Fairley also was issued traffic citations for reckless driving, no proof of insurance and an open container.

Fairley also has a hearing set for July 31 from a marijuana charge back in April. Earlier this month, he apologized to the Detroit Lions and their fans for putting himself in these situations.

It's been a rough off-season for Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley. After a promising rookie season in 2011, he found himself tangled with the law not once, but twice in the past couple of months. First it was a marijuana charge in April and then a DUI in May.

Getting arrested twice isn't great publicity for either your team or yourself, and though Fairley was participating in the Lions OTAs not much was said about it by him. Friday morning, Fairley released a statement on Facebook regarding the arrests, an apology for getting into trouble and giving the team unwanted bad publicity.

After taking some much-needed time to reflect on recent incidents, and after conversations with my advisors, teammates, and members of the Lions organization, I would like to make the following statement:

I want to personally apologize to my fans, teammates and the Detroit Lions organization for bringing this unwanted attention to our team. I recognize my actions were inexcusable and I personally need to uphold the expected standard of behavior of a professional athlete. I do not take for granted this opportunity and feel blessed everyday to play in the NFL.

At this time, I am fully cooperating with the Mobile, Ala. Police Department. I am now focused on moving forward and committing my focus to football. I would like to thank everyone for your concern and understanding.

Hopefully, that will mean that Fairley will stop getting in tangles with the law in the future. He could have a bright future ahead as a football player if he can stay out of trouble.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is not happy with the off-field issues some players on his team are having; specifically, problems that members of the team's 2011 draft class are having, which include five different arrests from the five-member class. Nick Fairley is the most recent offender, being arrested and charged with driving under the influence, attempting to elude police and refusing a breathalyzer.

Schwartz addressed the issues when he met with the media following organized team activities on Tuesday. His comments courtesy of Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press:

"I think what we have here is a case of a few guys tainting the reputations of a lot of others. What we have here is a situation that it appears that a couple guys haven't learned and that is a concern but they are still young and there's still a lot in front of them and we are hopeful that they can ... put this behind them."

In addition to Fairley, the team has also had to deal with wide receiver Titus Young, who got into a fight with teammate Louis Delmas. Young was forced to sit out practice prior to returning on Tuesday. Here's what Schwartz had to say:

"There's certain criteria for him to be able to come out and practice & play the way that we know he can. He had an outstanding day of practice today. That doesn't erase the incidents that have occurred and it doesn't change the process that we're going to have for him to stay in good standing, not just with the team but with his teammates."
