Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera told reporters on Friday that he feels like he has been able to turn his attention to the team's playoff series vs. the Oakland Athletics after an intense Triple Crown race.

"I feel much better right now," he said. "I think these two days off helped me a lot to get over the Triple Crown race, be ready and focused about (Saturday's) game."

Cabrera, of course, won the first Triple Crown in baseball since 1967. But the national media attention surrounding the event was more than Cabrera -- or most any player -- is used to. He also told reporters that he was taken aback by the congratulations he got from non-baseball star athletes like Ndamukong Suh and LeBron James.

Cabrera finished the season hitting .330/.393/.606 with 44 homers and 139 runs batted in. It was Cabrera's third-highest batting average of his career and his highest in homers and RBI.

Burger King awarded Miguel Cabrera for his Triple Crown by presenting him with three paper crowns and a gift card that can buy a whole lot of Burger King products.

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera completed the first Triple Crown in Major League Baseball since 1967, and Burger King made sure he was handsomely rewarded, according to a report by ESPN.com's sports business reporter Darren Rovell on Friday.

The fast food titan sent Cabrera three paper crowns typically worn by younger patrons of the restaurant, a letter from the franchise's vice president (which can be viewed in the link above) and a $100 Burger King gift card.

"We invite you to celebrate your AL Central playoff berth by treating yourself to your favorite BK menu items on us," Burger King vice president of global communications Miguel Piedra said in the letter.

Cabrera finished the regular season with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 RBI to secure the American League Triple Crown for the first time since Carl Yastrzemski accomplished the feat in 1967 with the Boston Red Sox.

According to the report, Cabrera does not have a fast food endorsement deal.

The Detroit Tigers' slugger doesn't get much time to bask in his glory, as the Tigers must prepare to take on the Oakland Athletics in the 2012 American League Division Series, which is set to begin 6:07 p.m. Saturday at Comerica Park. Aside from any postseason honors he may earn, Cabrera might also have some additional regular season accolades coming his way.

He has been locked in a tight race with Angels outfielder Mike Trout for AL MVP honors, but the combination of a Triple Crown title and a playoff berth (Trout and the Angels did not make the playoffs) might be enough to sway voters who don't look at advanced stats such as Wins Above Replacement.

The Kansas City Royals sold plenty of extra tickets for the game in which Miguel Cabrera sealed his Triple Crown win.

Not only did Miguel Cabrera earn one of the greatest and most elusive honors in Major League Baseball on Wednesday, his Triple Crown also boosted ticket sales ... for the Kansas City Royals. According to Scott Miller on Twitter, the Royals saw a significant number of last-minute ticket buyers as the buzz reached its climax regarding a potential Triple Crown winner, the first since 1967.

In other words, the Royals only had 12,503 tickets sold prior to the start of Wednesday, and sold another 17,880 tickets in advance of the game starting. It's unlikely that all of those people were Tigers fans coming to see Cabrera make history, but more so fans in general wanting to say they were there. Forty-plus years isn't exactly "once in a lifetime" stuff, but it's still a great thing to be able to go see.

The Royals had been having lacking attendance all season, thanks to being well out of the race for the AL Central early on following the All-Star break.

Carl Yastrzemski and Frank Robinson, the previous two Triple Crown winners, released statements congratulating Miguel Cabrera.

Commissioner Bud Selig wasn't the only one to congratulate Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera for his Triple Crown win on Thursday. The previous Triple Crown winner, Carl Yastrzemski -- who won the award in 1967 -- released a statement via the MLB Public Relations Twitter account, in which he congratulated Cabrera for becoming the first man to win it since, well, him.

"I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Miguel Cabrera on winning the Triple Crown. I am glad that he accomplished this while leading his team to the American League Central title. I was fortunate enough to win this award in 1967 as part of the Red Sox Impossible Dream Team. I am sure Frank Robinson joins me in commending Miguel in reaching this significant milestone in his career."

As referenced in the end, Robinson was the man to win the Triple Crown prior to Yastrzemski. He actually won it the previous year, in 1966, and he did, in fact, join Yastrzemski in congratulating Cabrera. In another tweet from MLB's Public Relations Twitter account, Robinson, who is MLB's executive vice president for baseball development, congratulated Cabrera in kind.

In Robinson's congratulation message, he noted that Cabrera's challenge was likely tougher, given the specialized relievers in the game today. While that wasn't something totally unheard of back then, you never saw the kind of pitch-by-pitch management that goes on in today's game. Every single pitch to Cabrera this season was calculated to stop him. Of course, they didn't stop him nearly as much as they'd have liked, or he wouldn't have won the Triple Crown.

Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera has joined a very exclusive list of MLB Triple Crown winners.

Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera became the first MLB Triple Crown winner since 1967 on Wednesday night, as he finished the 2012 season with the American League lead in batting average (.330), home runs (44) and RBIs (139). How exclusive is the Triple Crown club? Cabrera is only the 15th player to win the Triple Crown in MLB history. The list includes Hall of Fame players like Carl Yastrzemski, Frank Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Joe Medwick, Lou Gehrig, Chuck Klein, Jimmie Foxx, Rogers Hornsby, Ty Cobb and Nap Lajoie.

This rare statistical achievement highlights the broad talents Cabrera possesses at the plate, and his raw numbers rank among the very best of the Triple Crown winners in the modern era:

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig released a statement congratulating Miguel Cabrera on his Triple Crown victory.

Winning the American League Central was obviously the best thing that could happen to the Detroit Tigers up to this point in the season. It wasn't pretty, but they managed a victory after starting the season as favorites to wipe the floor with the rest of the pack. A close second to taking the division? Miguel Cabrera winning the first Triple Crown since 1967. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig made a statement congratulating Cabrera, as tweeted by the MLB Public Relations Twitter account:

"It is an honor to congratulate Miguel Cabrera on earning the Triple Crown, a remarkable achievement that places him amongst an elite few in all of Baseball history. Miguel has long been one of the most accomplished hitters in the game, and this recognition is one that he will be able to cherish for the rest of his career in baseball and beyond. As the Tigers prepare for the Postseason, we have a global stage to witness Miguel's talent, which will go down as one of the hallmarks of Major League Baseball's extraordinary 2012 regular season."

While it is a huge individual honor for Cabrera, the whole team has benefited from his play, and it went as far as Jim Leyland closely managing Cabrera's final game to help him secure the title, as noted in a previous post. Leyland said it was more nerve-wracking than Game 7 of the 1997 World Series, so that should say a lot about how rare and how special earning the Triple Crown is in baseball.

Now that Cabrera has won the title, he can concentrate all of his efforts and getting the Tigers where plenty had them pegged in the offseason: the World Series.
