The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 on Friday to earn a 3-2 series win in the ALDS and a date with the Detroit Tigers this Sunday in the ALCS.
The Tigers defeated the Oakland Athletics, 6-0, on Thursday behind a complete game and 11 strikeout performance by Justin Verlander to earn their spot in the next round of the playoffs. Verlander won both Games 1 and 5 for the Tigers in the series.
The Yankees and Tigers played each other in the 2006 and 2011 ALDS series, both of which were won by the Tigers.
The Tigers defeated the Yankees 3-1 in the 2006 ALDS after losing the series opener and coming back to win three straight including Game 2 at Yankee Stadium.
In 2011, the Yankees forced a Game 5 after a 10-1 blowout victory in Game 4 at Comerica Park before the Tigers returned the favor with a 3-2 win at Yankee stadium to advance to the ALCS.
This is the Tigers second consecutive appearance in the ALCS.
Game 1 of the ALCS is scheduled for Saturday, October 13 at 8 p.m ET.
