On Tuesday, the Detroit Tigers will host Game 3 of the ALCS, and they'll be looking to put a stranglehold on the series by going up 3-0. The Tigers are two wins away from an appearance in the World Series – a place they always thought they could be if they just made the playoffs. They'll have someone very special throwing out the first pitch on Tuesday, as well. The Detroit Free Press is reporting, via Twitter, that Jack Morris will take part in the ceremony.
Morris was Detroit's ace for a long time, playing with the Tigers from 1977-90. He has 254 wins for his career, and won a World Series with the Tigers in 1984. He also won World Series titles with the Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays in the short time he was with both clubs, but he spent the majority of his career with the Tigers.
Detroit relied on strong pitching to get them to this point in the postseason. MLB's reigning MVP and AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander led the way big time, and will be the pitcher on Tuesday. He's the team's current ace and possibly the best pitcher in the league, so it's only fitting that someone of Morris' caliber throw out the first pitch in advance of Verlander's show.
