The Detroit Tigers know they will be in the 2012 World Series, but they still don't know who exactly they are going to play. They will find that out, though, on Monday night, as the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants battle in Game 7 of the ALCS.
It is, curiously, a familiar position for this year's Tigers team. Detroit experienced the same phenomenon on the final game of the season, when they knew they had won the A.L. Central but had to wait to find out which teams would win the two other divisions.
Detroit, though, does know a few things. It knows that Justin Verlander will pitch Game 1 of the series, followed in order by Doug Fister, Max Scherzer and Anibal Sanchez. It also knows that it will be on the road to start the series, as the National League has home field advantage in the World Series.
Come late Monday night, the Tigers will finally know if they will be heading south or west.
