World Series 2012: Tigers conclude workouts at Comerica Park

The Detroit Tigers have concluded workouts at Comerica Park in advance of the World Series.

The Detroit Tigers have been working out at Comerica Park while the National League Championship series continued to roll along. Their opponents are now known: the San Francisco Giants. Still, they had three total workouts and practices prior to actually knowing who their opponents were, which is always an odd thing for teams. Having such a long layoff can sometimes be detrimental.

According to, the Tigers spent two of their three practices going through scrimmages, simulating actual game time as opposed to just hitting, catching and throwing. This is beneficial because it keeps the team plenty fresh, though they obviously weren't able to emulate their opponents given the fact that they didn't know who they were going to play.

Catcher Alex Avila said the practices were key, and that in three or four days off, a team can "get out of it mentally more so than physically," which is why the scrimmages themselves are effective in keeping them ready. Either way, they've wrapped them up now and are off to San Francisco.
