Eager to open 2012 World Series on the right foot, the Detroit Tigers will be in search of yet another dominant performance from right-hander Justin Verlander on Wednesday night against the Giants at AT&T Park.
Playing on the road for the first two games of the series, Tigers manager Jim Leyland is forced to employ designated hitter and ALCS MVP Delmon Young in the outfield in order to keep his hot bat in the lineup. Young will hit fifth and play in left field in Game 1, and will very likely remain in the exact same role for Game 2 on Thursday.
After recording five hits in 11 at-bats against the Yankees, 21-year-old Tigers prospect Avisail Garcia will once again be called on to start in right field in Leyland's lineup. Garcia owns a .333 average over 18 postseason at-bats with four runs batted in, and will hit seventh on Wednesday to face Zito for the first time in his career.
