Victor Martinez injury: Tigers DH on track to be ready for spring training

Dave Dombrowski expects Martinez to return from his knee injury in time for spring training.

According to reports from Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowksi's press conference on Tuesday, the team expects to have Victor Martinez in camp when spring training begins for the 2013 season.

Martinez missed the entire 2012 season with a torn ACL in his left knee, suffered during offseason workouts while preparing to shift to the full-time DH for the Tigers. Following the knee injury, Martinez is likely done filling any defensive role for the Tigers but the timing is perfect for his return as the full-time DH.

Dombrowski also said he doesn't plan to bring back Delmon Young who filled that DH role for the Tigers with Martinez out all season. In his last full season with the Tigers, Martinez had a .330 batting average and .850 OPS with 12 home runs and 103 RBIs. With Martinez able to return next season, the Tigers don't have room for Young on the roster so they are comfortable letting him become a free agent.
