Max Scherzer has bullpen session scheduled for Monday

Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer reportedly has another bullpen session scheduled for Monday, after having a promising throwing session on Sunday.

Jason Beck of MLB.com is reporting that Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer has another bullpen session scheduled for Monday after his throwing session on Sunday went off without a hitch.

According to Beck, Scherzer threw from 100 feet for 10 minutes prior to the Tigers' game Sunday, and did not feel any discomfort throwing any of his pitches.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland says that the only way that Scherzer will pitch before the playoffs begins is if the AL Central is on the line Wednesday. If the Tigers have the division locked up before then, Drew Smyly will start the final game of the regular season.

Scherzer's last start came on Sept. 23. He, along with Justin Verlander, have been a formidable one-two punch in the Tigers rotation all summer. Scherzer is 16-7 with an ERA of 3.82 and 228 strikeouts. His strikeout rate of 11.2 per nine innings pitched leads the American League.
